Flemeth. Which of her looks do you prefere? Her in DAO, or her in DA 2?

She was one of my favorite characters from DAO, and while I don't really mind her appearance in DA2, it just seems silly and pandering. Ok, she's no longer hiding out and trying to keep a low pro, but why does that translate into changing into a body hugging chainmail suit, and doing her hair up to look like horns? It's too in your face with the "I'm a powerful unique character", It clashes with HER character completely, It's the sort of thing that belongs in a childrens Disney movie, not in a game that's supposed to be more on the mature side.

Because that is what she was trying to do(in DA2). Granted it reminded me of Final Fantasy way too much(so did Fenris, BTW), but that's what they were going for. A powerful witch who is feared throughout the land.

When I saw flemeth in DA2 I thought:
" Well she has been using some sort of magic anti wrinkle cream , got an boob job , facelift , and started watching some anime since she definetly is cosplaying some crazy thing. "

DA2 Flemeth. There's actually a design there.

Origins has a design. It's called the "laying low, so Templars don't bother me kind".

I prefer DAO just because it was more mysterious than her looking like a Final Fantasy character. In DAO, she was believable. In DA2, she is just a weird-looking character in a non-existant universe, rather than where she seemed to feel like a real person in DAO... You had heard tales of her power but she acted weak and old and frail. In DA2, she acts as if she is powerful and her image portrays this. I just found the DAO version to be better - the whole Morrigan and Flemeth thing was great.

I realize this thread is mainly debating the character design, but to those of you saying things like "she doesn't fit" etc, etc., you gotta remember one thing: This is Varric telling a story. It could very well be (though there's no evidence for it) that he's embellishing how she looks to make it more interesting. For all you know, in reality, Hawke encountered her looking exactly how she does in DAO.

Personally, I like the DA2 version - it's a far more interesting design.

ITT DAO fanboys trying hard to make something bad look like it was better than what came next.
Seriously, she looks like **** in DAO, that's it. They didn't do it on purpose, they just couldn't make Flemeth look like the concept art they had for her, which was actually interesting (and very different from her DA2 appearance too).

Actually being so dismissive of everyone else's opinion just seems hilarious.

I prefered the first Flemeth because she was a subtle character. She didn't look like a stereotypical fantasy witch of supreme power or seem so casual about information or flaunting her skills. It was great from my perspective because there was so much doubt as to whether she actually did turn into a dragon to save our wardens from Ostagar or if she was even the Flemeth of legend, fueled with conflicting myths between Morrigan and Leliana. I wasn't sure by the time that Morrigan asked me to fight her the first time if Flemeth would really be a threat at all. So I thought the subte presentation was incredibly fitting. If Flemeth looked like the concept art then there would of been far less doubt as I played through DA:O that she was some freaky witch with dangerous mystical powers at her command.

Actually in defense of DA 2, the player already knows this about Flemeth (even if Hawke does not) so perhaps Bioware didn't care to hide anything about her powers since it wouldn't suprise anyone on the other side of the fourth wall. It does seem as though Flemeth's perception of hiding subtly has changed between the two games so I'm not sure how well this speaks of character continuity from a writing standpoint.

As far as character design goes, I much prefer Flemeth's look in DA2. But I thought that her old woman ruse was necessary in DA:O. Afterall, she was raising a daughter and had to keep that on. And it was necessary to keep the player guessing as to what her true involvement was in the origin story.

In DA2, things were out in the open. There was no reason for Flemeth to appear as an old woman. She swooped in, cleared the dark spawn. She needed to be kick ass looking. How anti-climatic it would be if after she kicked the dark spawn's arse, she became a frail old woman?

For all we know, even in DAO, when Flemeth wasn't around Morrigan or the Warden, she probably prowled around looking like what her DA2 look like :)

Heh. I see nothing in DA2 that merits a "M" or "18+" rating. More like PG-13. "May contain foul language, violence, and scenes of minor sexuality"

It wasn't planned to get an "M" but it is possible to walk in on someone getting a ******
(it's possible in DA:O the difference is that it's cinematic now)
