What I find fantastic about the range of customizations we can give our Sheps, is its extensive enough to very rarely see two Sheps alike....also allows us to be creative and form our own works of art...I love seeing all the custom Sheps.

What I don't get is the insults sometimes leveled at peoples Sheps...eg..thats ugly, sl*tty, etc...A lot of people put a lot of time and effort into their Shep creations to create a face they enjoy. So whats with the disrespecting? Jealousy perhaps....this coming from people who are unable to create their own Sheps? Or people who have nothing better to do with their time than look for more ways to level personal attacks...as if there wasn't enough in these forums? Whats the deal?

It could just be a matter of lashing out to cover one's trouble with working the face sliders. Case in point, my fiance usually goes with the default face for Sheps because he freely admits he's lousy at it. He's watched me come up with very nice custom Sheps with just a few clicks and he said he doesn't know how I do it so easily.

I wish the face generator screen gave you multiple angles, or allowed you to rotate 360 degrees to see how the light hits at certain angles. I also wish there was better lighting overall or the ability to zoom in the face generator screen (specifically in ME1). At the time I created an ideal face, modeled off a shaved-head Nefertiti sculpture, with bright blue eyes and dark skin.

I liked my original character, but much later in the game I discovered that I had made her cheekbones FAR too defined, to the point where they were pointed..and not in a clever Lady Gaga Born-This-Way facial prosthetics way. By making her neck as thin as possible I discovered that when out of armor on the Normandy she had a neck of excessive length.

I was too far in game to start over, so I stuck with it despite having some very jarring camera angles in conversations.

I eventually re-modeled her face when importing on my 7th Mass Effect 2 play-through. Her look is more multicultural, and her ultraviolet eyeshadow matches the colour of my armor and the Warp Ammo hologram on my weapons. But I sometimes dislike how make-up and scars can look in certain lightning or camera angles. I do wish they allowed more in-game customization of certain features, like the ability to remove/change make-up, alter hair color or styles, or repair scars (the ones that were selected in character creation, not the ones from your Lazarus project rebuild that can be healed/worsened by paragon/renegade choices).

I had exactly the same trouble with the cheek bones...going for high and broad (made Native American), they came out far too defined and jagged in game play and his cheek skin had an odd stretched look about it...I spent ages going in and out of game play trying to get his cheek bones right, it was tiresome and frustrating.

360 degrees angle would be very helpful...my Shep looks kinda boof headish from behind, this only really coming to light in ME2.........Am trying to ignore that.

In game customization would be great...I hope BW has heard the fan pleads on that one.

Your Shep sounds intriguing and beautiful...has she still got the basics of the Nefertiti design? Do you have her posted anywhere?

I wish I could have done it in a few short clicks...took me forever.......Sounds like you happen to have a talent for this art...B).

Yes, lashing out could very well be one of the reasons, but  I would  think that should really come more down to the case of using default or asking someone with a Shep they like for the code...slagging achieves nothing more than art bashing, it's such a shame, I hate seeing peoples Sheps get trashed.

Sadly people like to take the mick out of people are who ugly/pretty. Human nature and so it applies to people's own Shepards.

People often think their opinions are facts.

I have the same issue with the cheekbones aswell. ARGH.

A lot of people like to plaster their custom Shepards all over their avatar and signature.

Thanks for the compliment.:)

I have noticed with all my playing around with the face generator for both the ME and DA franchises is the big problem tends to be with cheekbones and skin colour so any non-white Sheps are going to have problems with one or both areas.

Best face generator I've come across is the one used for Star Trek Online.  You can go with the basic options like what we're used to or go into advanced and micromanage to one's heart content.  Both offer a full 360 preview with zoom, and an undo option.

This is why I use only the default look for the PC in my Dragon Age/Mass Effect videos.

Unfortunately too true....would be much better if people found a more productive way to spend their time though...look in the mirror and contemplate if they feel a need to judge on such small matters as someones face...or in regrds to art (Shep face), get creative themselves and give it go, instead of wsting their energy on dissing anothers hard work....Sorry, I have developed a bit of a issue with it, really fed up with the trollers trolling such awesome art work.
I have the same issue with the cheekbones aswell. ARGH.
I found theres a really fine line with the cheek bones...they suddenly rush form under developed to over developed, with a very brief moment in between...I finally managed to catch that moment, just a touch on the heavy side, but close enough, most of the time his face looks quite smooth...the jagged edges appear rarely enough to keep me happy now and as a bonus, most frontal images give him a kinda chiseled look now...I'm happy with that...though his a bit of a chipmonk cheeks from the sides, but I decided it's cute actually....=]
What can I say...I have a lot of respect for a talented artist...:)

Cheek bones seem to be fast becoming a recurrent theme........sorry to say, I'm glad it's not just me then...:). Though personally I like how the darker skin colors have come up on a number of Sheps, probably more a middle ground thing maybe...I liked Gianna Parasini's skin color and found the closest to it on the wheel and have been quite happy with the outcome, though that being said, maybe thats why I ended up having to give my Shep a mostache, he looked really baby faced until I did that...I would love to see better skin texture introduced, like the lucky souls have with the mods...mines unmodded...I think it would help a lot with the skin coloring

The truth is, most people dis it because they fail at using it. Instead of holding themselves accountable, they blame the tool (and BioWare). While these certain people think it's a problem, it's actually a PEBCAK.

PEBCAK. My favorite tech support term next to the ID 10 T error.

And yes, I work in IT.

On topic - I've always loved custom Sheps. My canon Shep is custom. The default face is what I think of as 'Bioware's canon Shep'. It's just the most easily accessible.

I agree.  I actually managed to make my canon Shep with properly proportioned features (and the same nose and skin tone as me).  He didn't earn the title "Mr. Universe" just by saving it.  Image IPB

Me too.  Real reason why I roll with Sheploo is because whenever I try to make a custom one, he always comes out looking like Darwin's missing link or something.
