PEBCAK. My favorite tech support term next to the ID 10 T error.

And yes, I work in IT.

On topic - I've always loved custom Sheps. My canon Shep is custom. The default face is what I think of as 'Bioware's canon Shep'. It's just the most easily accessible.

I do software development and IT work.  I have a sign I want to put on my door:

Image IPB

I suspect this would not be conducive to career advancement.

Of-course, but if I think its/he's ugly I'm going to say so.

For some reason I can create an ideal looking femshep but I absolutely suck at creating a decent manshep.

What's weird is that I have the exact opposite problem in Dragon Age. I can create an ideal male but not a female.

And I would expect nothing less from you of course Saphra....Just curious, do you use Default Shep or a Custom?

LOL...I have the exact opposite problem with ME...every femshep I have tried to make ends up with a weirdly bulbous brow and a queer pointy little chin....they just look really odd.

Something about how we each individually adapt to the creative mechanics I guess, I can make a man but not a woman on Oblivion also, but my woman came up well in Fallout Los Vegas, but the men were all fails....I have thinking about buying Dragon Age...Good game?

From what i've noticed, People make fun of the Defaults more then the Custom shepards.

Curious though...whats a PEBCAK?...Please excuse my ignorence, I'm computer illiterate...:(.

Actually, it's more of a tech support term.  PEBCAK = Problem Exists Between Chair and Keyboard

You have no idea how often I want to use this term at workImage IPB

I'm beginning to get the sense that you IT guys have a wicked sense of humor....:D

I'm surprised....I thought Sheploo is pretty popular....personal tastes aside, I was under the impression Sheploo is the most commonly used. He doesn't really appeal to me personally...I just think he looks rather renegadish...but thats my impression of him... but I can see how he would appeal to many....he is well done.

Do you like your custom?...Visually I mean. And have you chosen to post your Shep anywhere at all?

I didn't really do anything special with creating my femshep. All I did was take the default face and change the skintone,eye/hair color, hairstyle and make up.  It's incredible how such minor changes makes her look like a completely different person.

And yeah Dragon Age is a good game. Different kind of RPG though, which may or may not be to your liking.

I'm satisfied with him. He is Shepard to me. I tweak him every now and then when a I detect weird facial structure.

I haven't posted him anywhere because I'm on 360 and thus can't get any screenshots.

Yeah, I'm on an XBox also...I don't go well with keyboard and mouse play...bought hubby a huge TV for Xmas, so stuck the game on there one day and took a couple of photos', but with screen reflection, didn't come out that well.

Exactly why such a massive variety of Sheps...it's great seeing what people do with them.

Hubby downloaded one of those short tester games for Dragon Age....I'm a ranged combatant, so am a bit wary, but those graphics are awesome.

The ranged issue can be solved by playing as a Mage or using a Bow. :)

Thank you Seboist...I'm a Bow fanatic, just wasn't sure how well it is done in DA....sounds like I have nothing to worry about. :-)

Y'know, I've often wondered how many try to have thier Sheps look like them or integrate as much of thier own appearance into the face.

For me, the majority of my Sheps both male and female tend to have dark hair and eyes along with my light mocha skin tone whereas with my fiance, when he does try to make his own Sheps, they tend to be more auburn hair with blue or green eyes and pale enough that they look like cadavers to me which does fit that he's got the brown-auburn hair, blue-grey eyes and will turn lobster red if there's any hint of unclouded sun present.

My Canon Shep looks nothing like me. Besides the gender difference she has fair skin, red hair and green eyes. None of which I have. =)

I once tried to create a manshep that looked like me but instead he came out looking like a middle aged philipino.Which is a far cry from what I look.

I haven't tried to make me....the only thing my Shep and I share is dark hair...other than that his male, dark eyed, dark olive skinned, all of which I'm not.

I wonder, does anyone have trouble making their Sheps look like them?

I wish there was some better hairstyles for Shepard. Hawke had some really nice hairstyles. Why is the lighting so different when making a Shepard/Hawke? They never look the same in gameplay. My first Hawke ended up with much blonder hair and pinker lipstick than she did when I made her, I got used to her in the end but I did wonder how much time she took getting ready just to go out and get drenched in blood.

I used to try and make characters look like me but I prefer them to look different because I don't like playing them with my morality etc.

whenever I have an option to custumize faces, I try to make that character look like me.  so my first Shepard went through a lot, and I mean a LOT of work before I managed to get her to look sorta like me.  still not quite there, the character creator doesn't have enough constumization options, but its something.  Warden, I thought would have been easier since you can change facial featurs quite a bit, make eyes bigger or smaller etc... I was wrong.  my first warden looks kinda like me when I was 12 :/  I've given up with Hawke.
