I just played through The Stone Prisoner again and I noticed that the mage Willhem's son, Matthis, looks a lot like Anders.  So much that it makes me wonder if Ander's isn't an illegitamate son to Willhem.

I believe Anders and Matthis both use the same face model and hairstyle, alot of characters share face models in this game and DA2.

Anders has a similar face as Alistair and has the same hair style (in Awakening) as Duncan, though he's not related to either. Bioware are just big on recycling.

So it's the lack-of-continuity bug that has plaged this series since the end of Origins?

Anders is from the Anderfels, hence his nickname (we don't know his real name) so not likely to be related

The other thing that's probably throwing you off is Matthis/Cullen/Anders are all Greg Ellis' voice.

It has been suggested (usually in fanfiction) than Anders is another of Maric's bastards, and thus Alistair's (and Calian's) brother.

Since Wilhelm was one of Maric's soldiers in the rebellion, the king presumably also knew his wife when she was young...

But let's shush. Letting someone as painfully stupid as his daugther anywere close to a position of power is a recipe for disaster.
