Dogmeat && Barkspawn are the only names I've ever used for "dog".

1-Install Mabari Summon Replacements mod (http://dragonagenexu...ile.php?id=2581)
2-Use the golem creature
3-Name it "Shale", enjoy the irony.
I always wanted a personal dutiful golem and was annoyed by Shale, so now i finally get one! I roleplay that hawke finds a control rod and golem on the visit to the deep roads.

In a recent |Origins playthrough I named the dog, Gamlen.
In the subsequent DA2 playthrough I called the dog Titus, after the Warden.

I usually go with Helion (in both DAO and DA2), but sometimes Barkmonger.

DAO: Gorim. I was playing a female dwarven noble who thought she'd never see her second again, so I thought the name would jump to mind. It's maybe a bit silly, but there was one time that I nearly started talking about Gorim on the forums without clarifying that I was referring to my Mabari. The result would have been funny, if I hadn't realized my error before posting.
DA2: Barkspawn. I wasn't feeling particularly inspired and the name tickles me.

DAO: my first playthrough (human mage) I named him Teddy, because I thought he looked rather cuddly. . . like a teddy bear. I can't remember my dwarf commoner's dog's name right now. . . I think my elf mage's dog is named Shartan. It seemed to make sense.
DA2: Howell. I think it's self-explanatory.

My favorite name in DA:O for my dog: Shank...ah, I liked Bastard too.
For DA:2 (not politically correct), but I named him ******. My buddy named his Gamlen, which makes me laugh.
