DAO depends on the character. I can't remember what my first dog's name was, but my mage's dog was named after Cullen. 
In DA:2, I didn't even know -how- to name my dog through the first playthrough. Plus, totally forgot I could have one until I was in the second act, so yeah. xD Second time around I kept him Dog, just 'cause of what Gamlen said, and that's what my girl would've done. XD "Why can't we just call him Dog? Much easier to remember." Hawke: "Works for me. Don't care much for the damn thing anyway." Dog: "*whimpers*"
