Does that mean the pistol will have more ammo capacity? Because the pistols won't last long with their current amount of ammo.

Woo! Now my Infiltrator can sneak around with minimal equipment, and my Adept/Engineer will only carry one primary weapon and a sidearm (for RP'ing purposes). 

However my soldier will be carrying a heavy weapon; he is going to be a futuristic swiss army knife of death (quite literally, as he now has an actual blade at his disposal )

I suppose there won't be an option to take 3 or 4 different heavy weapons with you? With the limited ammo you're carrying (assuming heavy weapon ammo remains like it was in ME2), that'd be an equal challenge albeit a more destructive one:pinched:

Oh, I dunno…Even if I never use it, I like having that comforting feeling of having the big boy available just in case I run into trouble. Especially during the first play through when you don’t know what’s around the next corner.

It's up to 3 weapon types plus Heavy weapon.
So yeah any three types you want and you have the option of NOT bringing in a heavy weapon

I think the 3 slots are independant of the Heavy weapon. It reads to me that your class has x slots + heavy weapon

Watched gamescom gameplay footage with Atlas fight? He was defeated ridiculous easily. Though the difficulty the devs are showing us is "Ultra Easy"... Atlas just turns his back to you while shooting Liara...
