Eh? Amazing stuff regarding emails. I viewed then as an excellent extra feature which allowed us to hear from ancillary characters that we would never hear from otherwise. Although some people fail to understand it a game is like a box, there are only so many things of so much size you can put in that box. No we can't make actual face time convos with every single ancillary character from previous games however since fans like some of these people we can slip in these very small items in the box that let the player know that they did indeed influence or affect others.

The alternative to emails is nothing, because they aren't going to invest the time, resources, art work to stick all of these past npcs all over the place for us to have a 3 line convo with.

Responding to certain emails is a good idea though to advance that system a bit.

Agreed with the above sentiments. The one place where a bunch of ME1 characters showed up, Illium was really pushing it and showed just why the e-mails were a good idea to relegate a lot of that minor stuff. I mean, Gianna, the Rachni Envoy, Shiala, Conrad and Liara all manage to just be at the very same port at the very same time. I can only imagine how crazy it would have been to have every area like that, just chock full of characters going "Shepard, you probably don't remember me but,"

Hrm. When they said emails were "successful," I'm not sure that's the same as "ideal."

I think the emails were just a low cost way of adding more depth to the game. In that way, they were successful. If your only options are receiving value added information through emails, or not receiving that information at all because they don't have the resources to implement them in a more complex way, well, I'd rather have the emails.

Obviously I'd rather interact with an NPC than read an email, but let's be pragmatic here...

I honestly don't see why people **** so much about the emails. It allowed us to follow up on characters we probably wouldnt have been able ot see in game. Emails make more sense in game too than Shep running into every NPC he met in the first game again. It could have been better implemented, but I have to say I'm fine with the way it is.

In essence, emails are a bit like side-missions, which people also complain about a lot. They flesh out the world and bulk up the game a bit in areas where significant resources cannot be allocated. So, they are a nice added plus from a certain point of view, but this type of feature is always going to feel a bit thin and under-developed. Whatever, I'm glad it's there.

If some back and forth correspondance can be added, so much the better.

The point was that they just went full-retar i mean email mode for EVERYTHING.

Wait, what?  The game you played involved never leaving the Normandy, just reading emails all the time?  You never visited any of the characters from the first game at all?  Never fought on Horizon, the derelict Reaper, the collector base?  Was this a different, email-only video game I never heard about?

Because I would like to own it.

I rather liked the e-mails. It gave you a sense of the wider world out there and how your actions are affecting things. Some of them were very funny (I loved the junk mail ones).

This. Not everything can/needs to have world-changing consequences. Sometimes you're just helping little to pseudo-important people. What other way do they have to thank you?

QFT. While I think a few canned responses might be nice for Charm/Intimidate over the extranets(sic), for the most part this seems like a nice, low-coding way to get follow-ups on characters who aren't realistically going to be given full models and voice acting in a sequel. I actually got a little misty when I saw the e-mail from Talitha, myself.

Any news on if BW is gonna re air the dem/video that got screwed up during the gamescom air?

I know it's basically the same demo, but I heard they added a bit more of the cutscene to it. I woulda liked to have seen it.

I have to agree with this statement about e-mails.  It's just a little follow up from the people who's butts you saved in both games.  It gives the game a broader expance than just your missions, that there is life going on all around you.

The occasional email is all right, but the "broader experience" I mostly got was "How did all these people get my email address?  Aren't I dead?  And working with a secretive quasi-terrorist organization?"

You would think with Mr Hudson's reputation and pay packet and EA's budget; someone, somewhere would be able to get that man a keyboard and mouse produced after the turn of the century.
