its just sad that all that effort is by the end of the game, irrelevant.
I mean, the codex says a lot of things, it says this and that about asaris, turians, and other peoples but do we EXPERIENCE it?
No.
Yeah it's a shame that all the extra stuff written by Tolkien in his appendices and such is irrelevant, it added nothing to that universe and should have just been 'shown' so that we could 'experience' it.
You really think we could somehow have experienced everything discussed in the Codex in these three games? The codex is there to add flavour to and expand upon things we have discovered and experienced, and more importantly to tell us about things that would never have been fit into the game otherwise. It is an optional resource to add to the richness of the ME universe the writers and other devs have created, and to grant fans a deeper understanding of the way things work - even when we would otherwise have no reason to find out about it in the course of the game.
The codex isn't irrelevant, it's a neccesity.
i would rather play through the first contact war than read about it.
So would I.
But in the event that there no way to do that, I dont think settling for codex entries or a bit of exposition done by minor characters is that bad.
I dont want to wait until Bioware makes a First Contact War game (if they ever) to learn about an event that is crucial to Shepards journey (the whole state or things between humanity and other species. Hell if wed never heard of it, there wouldnt be anyone interested in experiencing it and maybe buying a game designed around it.
