My favourite ME1 mission was actually when we first arrive on the Citadel, I remember when I first interacted with the various aliens and got to actually see the huge depth there is in this game. Still one of the most memorable moments in gaming for me, this is when I knew I would love this series.
Yes! I loved going around and seeing all of the aliens for the first time, and then reading about them in the codex. I remember being really surprised when I read that those female aliens standing everywhere were an all female species, and then started listing off all of the species who would eventually join my squad (by looking at the outlines on the squad page). I wondered for ages what the final one was (Tali) until she joined.
Unfortuantely, there were no quests or parts in ME2 that felt the same. I really enjoyed Tali's loyalty mission though, since it was one of the few times where it really felt that the story was more important than the combat, and it had lengthy dialogue/cutsecene segments. Being able to see the culture I read about in Ascension also helped
