I think the worries about there being no permanent squadmates are relatively unfounded since the developers have made such frequent mention of the smaller squad size than ME2 offered. I'd imagine they wouldn't keep saying that if it were actually one big rotatable wheel with Shepard and only Shepard in the middle...

I tweeted Casey Hudson for clarification though. Reconfirmation of the (effectively) permanent status of VS, Liara, Garrus, Tali and James, basically.

I have a strong feeling that there will have to be points in the plot where a character can either fulfill a squad role for the story, or a seperate story mode role. Liara does have her Shadow Broker base -- and that could be even more helpful to Shepard than her sticking around with him for a few months. Garrus's character arch hints at becoming a SPECTRE.  He'd be a valuable agent. Tali hints at being a possible quarian Admiral. I'm sure they'll be a time when the VS's morals will clash with Shepard's, leading to a possible splt.

So, yeah, we might get to customize our team. Getting rid of one character could open up a slot where another character could be placed.

Team customization is a pipe dream of mine, personally. I don't have a strong feeling it will happen (unfortunately) but I would love to be wrong about that.

Will squadmate weapon damage be nerfed like it was in ME2?

I'm beginning to think that they're going to kill off the ME1 squaddies now. Gonna see Garrus driving a space car into a space refinery. "Never thought it would end like this huh?!? Huh shepard?!?"
That would be very unfortunate. Also props to anyone who gets the reference. :P I won't spoil where it's from.

LOL, I won't spoil the reference either, but that line from "that" person made me laugh. I was never a fan of you know who :)

You can't hand out props for that! You hand out props for references to one-time-apperance background characters from early-1970s sci-fi shows that only lasted four episodes on an obscure channel that no one has ever heard of, not for something that everyone and their mother has been playing for the last few days.

You're still going to be handing out props for this one by the time ME3 comes out.

Not "nerfed", balanced.

Have you ever used a fully upgraded Zaeed and Thane with Incisor rifles? Yeah, you don't actually have to do anything, they just plow through everything on their own - even on Insanity.

I bet Liara will be permanent for most of the game...Posted Image

I get the feeling that keeping permanency ambiguous is less to foreshadow a team of strangers, and more to keep people from getting arms that X isn't in as long as Z is. Better to leave that fallout for later.

[Although, I also feel some of the 'confirmed' perma characters may appear later in the game then expected; Legion style.]

Squadmates tend to nerf themselves shooting at covers, at each other, at Shepard's back or - damn you, Legion with Widow, - just completely missing. If DPS will be nerfed while squad AI finally managing to shoot properly, resulting effective damage will only bу increased.

Until then, I'm going with casters.

At this point this is just marketing for me. Why? Because it doesn't make sense with what they said eariler, how the squad is smaller so they can have more interaction and banter with and between the squaddies. If no one's permanent, that means squadmates roster would change frequently and they would have to reaplace each other constantly which would mean kazillion temp squadmates. No way there would be much squad banter/interaction with so many people. So yeah. Keep up the merketing BW, I fully expect Liara, VS, Vega, new female, Tali & Garrus to be 90%+ major squaddies.

Kazillion team squadmates? Where do you get this from?
There's still the "Don't expect squadmates to work like they did in ME1&2" quote form Norman

That is acutally a bug, they are not supposed to be that powerful. I don't think, anyway.

Unless Tali's dead body can come back from a blown up Collector Base, I don't think she's going to be in my squad.

You're correct. It is a bug. I really should've mentioned that.

Anyway, the Incisor bug is a good example of what squaddie DPS would be if we removed the balancing limiters.

Can someone ask whether the frequency of dialogue options in ME3 is more similar to ME1/ME2, where you choose most of what Shepard says, or to Arrival, where there were very few dialogue options?

I don't see why it wouldn't be, Shepard didn't talk much in Arrival because he generally had no one to talk to.

I have tons of questions but I hardly ever have them answered. It really sucks. I'm still waiting for a couple of questions that I posted last night to be answered.

They were only there on the Friday (yesterday) - I was there yesterday but I didn't go see them. Somehow I didn't see them dropping a whole load of spoilers so I didn't bother.

That would be awesome, but I think LotSB is the blueprint for squad interaction in ME3.
