I can't believe anyone actually expected an hour-long court case to open the story.

Well, yes I can.

What if the procedings consisted of fututristic cyborg clones of Matlock and Perry Mason engaged in both verbal and physical combat? Nobody could pass that up. Nobody.

I still expect it to be longer than "2 sentences" and that it will include choices generator and recap of events (in some form/way) if you didn't play previous games or DLC.

Oh yeah, I think it will be longer than two sentences. I certainly hope so! I'm just commenting on the people who heard the news last week or so that it was a lengthy investigation and somehow seemed to deduce we'd see most or all of that.

I'm hoping it's around 10-15 minutes long, including some very eerie camera angles showcasing the Alliance fleet in orbit and whatnot.

Casey Hudson in the game informer said the game will start out with showing a bunch of Earths cities.

Indeed he did!

Remember the shuttle ride where Miranda and Jacob asked Shepard questions? That's what I figure the trial would be like, only w/ more people. A five to ten minute recap of the first two games. It truly is amazing how much has been built up about this plot device by both BSN and BW themselves.

The trial will most likely be a longer (and bigger) version of the debriefing with Miranda and Jacob from ME2 (where they ask you about your background, Virmire, etc.). I don't expect much else out of it, to be honest.

Hopefully there is a button to skip all of the hoopla and get to the good stuff

Hopefully they've done a DA2 and separated the skip button from the select button so we dont skip things only to accidentally make the wrong choices :P

If you import Shep most likely you won't be getting any recap or choices to make and the trial will be much shorter. But don't expect to be able to jump into action after 2 minutes, I mean just how long was the ME2 intro even for import Sheps?

And that thing worked.

I hope they do something like that in ME3, instead of Genesis.

Both imported and not imported Shepard's had same intro length.

And it was confirmed that imported Shep's will have the same thing as not imported, only won't have choices so it's gonna be a recap.

I'm surprised they didn't do it for ME2 form the start in the first place. I mean, Miranda/Jacob debriefing was perfect for it and could include all necessary questions. Not to mention something like that was already done in KOTOR 2 (by answering one character's questions at the beginning you set up main KOTOR 1 choices/variables). Instead it kind of seems Genesis and the whole choices-generator was an afterthought that only appeared when they started working on PS3 version.

Not with Genesis though.

Really? Must have missed it. So it's gonna be pretty zzzZZzz... for imported Sheps. Though I guess it kind of makes sense since many players finished their Sheps months/years ago and won't remember lots of stuff.

^They needed to get voice actors for that.
Bioware only has Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale all the time.

Though it would be funny for Mark Meer to be as Jacob, while Jennifer Hale as Miranda.

Also, Genesis Shepard has special New Game option, if Genesis DLC is installed.

Imported Shepard and non-imported Shepard have same length of intro, while Genesis "import" Shepard has longer one.

Also for the recap?
It's not something to be boring for old player, but actually something neat to hear in game what you did in the past.

Good point - I have  a few cannons to import anyhow, and you know the first few times you will want to see every little detail.  It also look slike they will be carrying over a lot more decisions from ME2 -> ME3.

As far the opening scene being a Miranda/Jacob like recap scene. Good lord! I sincerely hope BW wouldn't open up the game w/ a Snoozer scene like that.

I highly doubt it will be that boring. Drama =/= glacial lengths. Intro to ME2 was very dramatic and wonderful. But it was only a few minutes long. Hit the dramatic hotspots, yes absolutely.

I completely agree with this, but ME2 seriously lacked it for me.  There didn't seem to be any ambient music while running around on non-missions like in the Citadel and on the Normandy.  It was too quiet, except for the clubs in Afterlife.  I'm hoping ME3 brings it back in some way.

+1

Does that mean we'll finally get to hear some new music in convention demos and whatnot?

"I'm all for yelling at bureaucrats, however most of the proceedings occur prior to #ME3. #YouCantHandleTheTruth"

Interesting. If I may pick every word apart..lol.

At first I thought (with the word "bureaucrats" included) that it hints at  this investigation being a..civilian/political/bureaucratic endeavor. Not restricted to Alliance military tribunal.

But then the hash tag (from one of the best scenes in movie history) hints ,imo, otherwise. Because wasn't that investigation scene all in a military environment?

Either way, if the opening as that kinda drama, like from that "you can't handle the truth" scene, then I'm a happy panda!

Well, back to work. If I'm gonna take time off in March, I gotta hustle now......

I would also love ambient music. I missed it in ME2 and Jack wall explained that were the wishes of BioWare. I hope they changed their minds.

Oh, something just occurred to me. Do you guys think that this whole thing about how most of the proceedings in Sheps "trial occurring before #ME3 is setting us up for "trial" DLC?

You know, 2 weeks or so before the game launch; for those that would like the extended version?
