Althrough Groudon's instant solar beam was pretty sexy.

Actually, I got Ruby because all my friends got Sapphire.  I had to be edgy and anti-mainstream back in the day.  Still like Groudon better, mostly for the insta-beam.

Kyogre had some pretty wicked abilities too if I remember.

But I admit I also had a weak spot for Groudon. Mostly because it was a giant armoured lizard dinosaur who lived in a pool of lava. That it and Kyogre were the pokemon equalivant of weather gods (or something like that) were nice too.
Ahhh Saphire (and Ruby). My first (two) pokemon games!

Granted, the increasing depth and complexity of the mechanics is always a bonus.

Eh the way I saw it gen 1 pokemon had some silly ones as well, but it could be excused because it was their first go at it. But seriously ice cream cone? Chandelier? Some of the pokemon are just plain... Stupid?

Eh thats my way of waiting for ME3, pokemon right there. We all know pikachu would kick the reapers collective asses.
