Eh, in the case the coop will be online only I'm not going to play it. I don't want to spend money on the Live.

"Tune in for a special BioWareTV episode at 10AM on Wednesday October 12th to have all your questions about Co-Op Mode answered!"
Interesting. They see the community now exploding and will try to calm the storm eh? Should be quite an informative show. "Have all your questions about Co-Op Mode answered!"? I somehow doubt that.On the contrary - watch it bring up MORE questions. heh.
anyone else see how he said Co-Op MODE......
I see that as a hint that its separate. If it was integrated into the single player, he wouldve said Co-Op feature.
It has to be separate. We've already seen that the SP plays just like ME2, which just won't work for MP. Three classes have time slowing effects and to use all your powers, the power wheel/pause is necessary. The MP has to use a simpler game play mechanic which means you won't be able to simply toggle MP/SP in the main story.

Does this mean that there will be missions or assignments that multiplayer co-op is a requirement to access them?

Edit: I would kill for offline co op Mass Effect. Even if they make that happen I still think it should have been saved for a follow up game however.

The thing is, resources spent on MP will almost certainly not affect the quality of the game's writing, that's simply not how developer studios work. They are split into teams, for the most part - the writing and story team will work on solely the writing and story, the programming team will work on the programming, the combat designers will work on the combat, the sound designers will work on the sound design, and, in this case, the newly formed online designers will work on the online component. It's not like, as you seem to be suggesting, to form this online designers team, Bioware will nab a couple of guys who work on the writing to do some online programming, that's just not how it works. The people who work on the story will keep working on the story, which, besides, has most likely been finished long, long ago, no matter whether they decide to implement an online component or not, and therefore it is, for all intents and purposes, impossible for the story to be affected by the implementation of co-op missions.XFemShepX wrote...
...I don't hate on multiplayer, I don't.
But not Mass Effect. I don't play Mass Effect because I wanted an MP game. Resources spent on MP, is less resources spent on the story and it's depth.
I'm not cancelling my pre-order, I'm kind of significantly less excited about ME3. I hope the devs are right about this....and not in the way the DA2 devs thought they were right about their shiny, new game.
I won't be checking these boards nearly as obsessively as I used to.
A game developers studio is not like a pie chart, which is probably the most common misconception around here. It is not comprised of a set group of, say, 100 people who can do absolutely everything in the field - sound, art, combat, playtesting, bugtesting, online, writing, level design. If you were to add a new feature to the game or put more focus on a certain part of the game, say, the combat, you would not take someone out of the writers department to work on the combat, which would affect the story, but you would hire someone who was experienced in combat design. If you add one feature, you do not take away another, if you put focus on one part of the game, you do not take away the same amount of focus from another unrelated part of the game, it simply does not work like that.

No, standalone co-op missions or a standalone co-op campaign which has no affect on the single player campaign and your ability to complete it. This was obvious from the get go.Silentblaze wrote...
Can anyone ask Casey or whomever can answer this please:

Meaning that co-op has nothing to do with main campaign? I'm starting to think they'll be quests like Pinnacle Station in ME1. Just sandbox arenas to compete in for fun?

No, it means 4-player co-op, not 4 missions.AngusJimiKeith wrote...
So what are features X and Y????
Hmm...only 4 missions...ya know, it would have been a lot easier on the fanbase (me included) if they just said "we're trying this. It won't be too much, in fact it's only a few missions." right from the start.

No '4 missions', only '4 players' missions.

I will be damned happy if it is option 3.
