"You are remarkably good at answering questions without disclosing any actual information. I'm most impressed."

"I answer as much as I can without ruining the sense of discovery waiting for people in the actual game."

I can understand that, but teasing about it won't exactly help.:P

Yeah, but it's still miles above dropping spoilers left and right. (ME2)

"When you say "Procedural foley" you mean real-time sound effects?"

"We built this really cool system that detects movement & plays corresponding armour/cloth sounds. Only way we could cover everything!"

Animation guys: Okay, here are hundreds and hundreds of conversation cutscenes, now put sounds on them.

Sound guys: HEEEELLLLL NO! *write program to detect movement and do it for them*

Seriously, that's some cool tech and a definite timesaver.

You, Sir, are 100% bang on with that. ME2 had about 20,000 conversation animations in it, I don't know how many ME3 has but I really didn't think it was a smart time investment doing all those movement sounds so we came up with a super awesome way to create these sounds at runtime... and it sounds considerably better than if we'd done it by hand. Haven't heard of any other game thats done this so we're pretty proud of it and will be taking it forward and enhancing in future Bioware games.

It's also meant we've been able to spend more time on making more interesting and reactive audio for the the more 'important' stuff based around player choice and actions.

Happy Halloween!

I wasn't quite sure what that meant when I saw it on the feed.
I'm sure you'll have more time to get more sounds in to ME3 now :P
Good stuff! :wizard:

Damn you and your close-to-an-answer-but-it-really-is-not shenanigans, Casey.

He dodged questions like an artist about MP for almost a year....

QUARIANS CONFIRMED.

I'm sure you mean "You, ma'am." Cheez is a girl.

On another note, in case Casey Hudson ever gets tired of making video games, he should seriously consider running for public office. ;)

Cheez is an Admiral first, Woman second, and a Go-Bot third. She doesn't like to talk about her challenging days with the Go-Bots, so don't ask.

Have we heard anything about the voice slowdown while sprinting / adrenaline rushing? Replaying through ME2 right now and it's irritating me.

Sounds really good. Now I want a Bioware Pulse episode just about audio.

As horrifying as it is sometimes to hear Tali speak like she's Satan, I'm doing the same thing and getting the impression they did it on purpose.

Pretty sure Dragon age has that sound to animation movement tech, at least in the cutscene editor.

Not happy about this self contained business, that tells me that we were officially tossed to the wolves.

It tells me people haven't been paying attention.  They've been saying the same thing since before Mass Effect 1 came out:

This isn't one story spread across three episodes though. Instead, each game will have a self-contained story with a spectacular and satisfying ending.

I understand that part, and I get why each game needs to stand on its own two feet.  Did you read my follow up posts, or just decided to hit that one?  I worry that our level of involvement with prior games will be reduced to a handful of cameos and a batch of emails you can't reply to.

They've already commented on this. If I remember it right, the ME3 level cap is 60. I believe you'll start at the same level you were by the end of ME2 - level 30 for most people.

Not sure what is or is not confrimed as in 'The devs told us they would be in' but Kai Leng (Cerberus assassin) is supposed to make an entrance. No word on the other characters. A dev tweet some time ago made me think Gillian and/or Kahlee Sanders might kick the bucket in the upcoming novel. "If they're alive, they'll be in ME3 in some capacity" I think a dev mentioned.

Is that so? Wouldn't that tone down how much we can edit our powers? I mean, if for each level up we get to add to an aspect of our powers(lower recharge time, increase duration, etc.) wouldn't it be better to start from the beginning to get the highest level of customized powers? Now I'm just a bit worried.

Err it will probably be something like you import and depending on your import lvl you will have X points to spend on talents at the beginning.
