why the **** was this script in the beta again? seems really odd to have that giant wall of text - relevant or not - in a beta of a demo that was supposed to come out anyway......and why does microsoft have the private beta of a demo that was not supposed to come out till next year in their hands?
i iz xtremly konvuzed...

Script is in the source code I believe, which you don't want to tamper with until you have everything set.  That's why it is common for betas to be hacked into, as they are still in the state where you just can't clean out house.  May need someone with more knowledge to affirm this or call me out on the count of b.s.

Microsoft had the private beta to test it on Xbox Live so things go as smooth as possible when the demo is released.  Kind of Microsoft's own bug hunt.  Same process was done with Reach and Gears 3.

You know, I've been toying around with getting an upgraded xbox, and they've got a bundle with kinect...
Ever since I heard that saying "falcon punch!" worked at one point of the development, I've had the urge to get one. :D

Well this leak has shown the true fans of the series to the people keeping up with the series because they played the first one.

Indeed no one who has followed this series passionateley since just before 07' would want to be spoiled at the final hurdle by something as pathetic as a notepad, it pains me when i saw people actually asking for the spoilers...obviously this is in no way an insult to the ones who accidentally stumbled upon it, i feel for them more than most.

After about an hour's worth of time (all up, not a solid hour) I have decided to say - ah, **** it. It's Mass Effect, I didn't spend a year hunting for a legit copy of the first and second games only to have this pile of BS ruin the third. If it pans out, it pans out. If it turns out false, even better!

Bioware, I know its been a trying weekend for you guys but take heart. You've made a good game, you're still making it and I can't wait for the finished product. :D

Why not ?
I always look for spoilers. A good story is not ruined if you know plot twists ahead of time and a bad story does not get any better just because it is a surprise.
In fact a big part of the fun of a game is for me to go through the various previews, interviews, unintentional leaks and other stuff and try to put together as much of the story as possible and later compare how my imagination compares to those of the developers.

I guess were just different people then, the explanation is the word "Spoilers" though, i dont go into books, movies, manga etc knowing whats going to happen before hand it ruins the experience atleast for me, and i certainly wont do it for games months beforehand, each his own i suppose. I would of liked me2 alot more if the devolopers didnt spoil almost 95% of the game beforehand, i really like this approach there taking this time, even if it unintentionally didnt work.

And out of curiosity how do you put a story together when you already know the ending ? :P

The ending is not as important as the journey there. Der Weg ist das Ziel as we say in German.

And I find that I can enjoy what is happening now much more when I do not have to worry about what is happening next while playing a game.

And are you saying that you never read the same book twice or watched a movie a second time?

As Martin said, to each his own. People are wired differently. There is no right or wrong answer. Simply a matter of preference.

Honestly, that's a poor analogy.  Reading a book or watching a movie for a second time is an entirely different experience from doing so the first time - or, rather, it should be.  Iain M Banks' Use of Weapons, for instance, is almost a different book on the second read.  Knowing what's going to happen in George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones changes the tone of the book immensely.  Nothing can replace that first, unspoiled experience.  And, then, one can go on to enjoy the reflective experience of a rewatch or a reread knowing that one is going to experience something different.

I have to say, I'm very disappointed in some of the Mass Effect fandom right now.  It's one thing for some people to rip apart the .tlk to find out what's inside it for themselves; it's another thing to spread that information all over the web.  The Song of Ice and Fire fandom, by contrast, has been exquisitely careful in keeping spoilers away from new watchers of the Game of Thrones tv series based on Martin's books, to the point where a guy who became a fan web-celebrity for his Game of Thrones reaction videos, which gained over a million views, remained completely unspoiled for the climactic events towards the end of the first season.  That is what a good fandom should be about: helping people to get the best experience possible of the work in question.

Personally, I'm not interested in ME3 spoilers and I'm not going to look at any of the stuff that leaked. But, I can't blame people for wanting to know. In the end it's not their job to keep me spoiler free and I can't force anyone to share my viewpoint of experiencing the game unfettered by story details. I feel terrible for the folks at BioWare, though, and can only imagine the frustration they must be experiencing right now. I have to wonder if all the story details had been mined out after the official demo was released would people be as up in arms?

As someone who's read the spoilers(Read one of those big spoiler thread titles, then just decided to go all the way after that), don't bother looking them up. They spoil some of the big things, and give you some of the directions they've chosen to take with the characters. But overall it's a very unfinished script, not something you can take to the bank. Changes are bound to have been made with a script that rough. Don't think that by reading it that you will have any idea what ME3 will finally be like. You'll just spoil some of the mystery, which will kind of suck if that's important for you to enjoy the story to its fullest.

If any of you guys read didymos1120's datamining threads from ME2, I recall he founds some old mission texts a few months back. They included some stuff on Zaeed's original recruitment mission. It was something about Shepard having to use the MAKOImage IPB to blast through to a crime boss's base and steal one million credits for Zaeed's fee. Also some stuff on Tali's loyalty mission where it was her father on trial, not her.

That's the kind of stuff you run into in the 'spoilers'. Only it's less coherant, and with a bit more detail. So even if you've been spoiled by thread titles and the like, don't worry about it. Those trolls aren't any the wiser having read the stuff.

*Checks to make sure he didn't put in any actual spoilers* *nods* *posts*

This has me a bit relieved. I haven't read any major spoilers - just one or 2 things about the virmire survivor. Reading your post definitely makes me feel better. I don't know about anyone else but...the fact that people have read spoilers kind of disheartens me. Like the game has been tainted or something. At this point, I'm just trying to avoid them like the plague.
