^ I'm pretty sure its not a scripted "virmire" death. People die, especially in war.

"According to @PatrickWeekes Shepard has music in his Normandy cabin. Is the music list fixed or can you add your own music?"

"I believe you're limited to the list. The cabin has a lot going on, and adding more music might break stuff. :)"

That sounds really bad.

Scripted deaths?

God I hope not.

I don't mind one or two situations being forced to choose between two people, but having a character die regardless is not cool.

I hope so. The mechanical facial expressions and formulaic body language of ME1 (and especially 2) were really dumb looking.

I know the argument would be "well you can't control what happens all the time" but I'll be irked if there is nothing you can do to prevent this.  I think they know that.  I can deal with/imagine another kind of Virmire situation like with Wrex and Ash and Kaidan or another suicide mission thing where you'd better have done the right things and used the right people for the right jobs, but if this ends up being "Oh Anders blows up the chantry no matter what you say to him" I'll be frustrated.

Yep. Bingo.

If there is those kind of situations (deaths as part of the story without player choice), then Mass Effect starts to become just another game with an interesting story. The biggest selling point of the ME series has always been that of telling your own story, choosing who lives and who dies. The fact its a universe at war be dammed.

If it looks like there is too much taken from the player hands  - then ME becomes a sale pick up instead of a day one purchase - and I spend many moons wallowing about what started out as and could have been the greatest gaming series ever created.

Given that it is a Galactic War, with something that huge. I think BW can be forgiven for having a couple scripted deaths because of the scale, not too many mind.

We'll see what happens. Although I am NOT a fan of scripted deaths either, art can imitate life, and in life, and especially war, there WILL be times that you are unable to change anything regardless of action or inaction. Hey, I know it sucks, but it also happens to be the truth.

In which case i'd rather watch a movie or read a book.

Scripted deaths can be great if they're mixed in with optional deaths.

It's all in how it's handled. For some characters, it could truly lead to a very satisfying end.

Not spoilers... intentionally anyway. I never saw much story-related portions of the leaked content.

ex. Zaeed choosing to make a last stand to save the squad even though he's not getting paid for the job. Wounded, seeing the writing on the wall and ready to accept his fate and willing to take as many of the enemy with him in a fiery blaze so that Shepard can move on. The only good thing that he ever did for free and he gets to go out being a big goddamn hero. Toss in Jessie to increase the cheese.

ex. Mordin making it his responsibility to end the genophage in some spectacular way, finishing the plot lines related to his guilt by allowing him to undo what he had done. I picture the squad on the other side of some glass or a barrier in a lab on Tuchanka so that no one else has to pay for his sins and he can die with his conscience clear. What Shepard does after this determines whether or not he gets krogan and/or salarian support.

Especially 2?  People were far more dynamic and had a greater range of facial expressions in 2.  That's just a fact.  Anything beyond the occasional arm movement during conversations in ME1 was really quite rare, whereas in 2 it was quite common for people to do stuff like stand up, pace around, lean against objects, change posture, etc.  Facial expressions were similarly limited in the first game.  And let's not forget the "Turn head. Swivel body. Exit scene" thing that ME1 loved to do.
