This is why Christina is awesome!

To address the last one: From the start I have been speculating that they will handle the squad differently and that a big part of that will be temporary squadmates. However it seems likely to me that some may be recruited depending on what choices you make, with you getting one or the other. It's also possible that there will be multiple occasions where squaddies can die, this is a war afterall.

But other than mindless speculation this could go any number of ways. The problem is if you want to find out about it before the game is released you will probably be waiting quite a while, and it'll probably spoil parts of the game if you know beforehand.

I think ultimately that, whatever the specifics of the system they have put in place, it is the best and perhaps only way to truly let every former squadmate have their day in the sun. Some squadmates are vastly more popular than others it's true, but each and every one not only HAS a fanbase, but is loved by those who created them. Naturally the folks at BioWare want to see them all play an important role in the final game. The jokes about Jacob kinda annoy me for this reason, yeah his romance was a bit cringeworthy, but other than that he was a good character and one a whole lot of people like. Just because they are fewer in number than some other characters fanbases doesn't mean he should get relegated to getting the coffee! I heartily echo the commenter who wants Jacob to turn up as an N7 or something.

Oh and it's great that we will see another N7(s?) I'm hoping there are some more Spectres too. I mean it IS the end of the Galaxy, if there was ever a time Shepard would bump into them it's now.

As much as I would like my squad back, most of the characters have more important places to be. If their story arcs demand them to be somewhere other than the Normandy then I won't be upset - I'd be more upset if squadmembers were confined to the Normandy at the expense of their story arc. If they work like Liara did in LotSB then that is fine by me. I only want them back on the ship if it makes sense form a story standpoint - for example, confining Wrex to the Normandy or Mordin to the Normandy would be contrived seeing as they both have much more important things to be doing with regards to the Genophage plotline.

I agree with you in every respect.  Much as I'd like everyone to be available for every mission (if the game had unlimited resources, anyway), confining some squaddies to a small number of missions allows those missions to be more personalised and for more character development to occur for those squaddies in those missions.

Casey Hudson already confirmed that some returning characters will be permanend, some will be temp, and others won't be in your sqaud, butwill show up.

Also if you played a certain way couldn't you end up with all squaddies dead from ME2? So Bioware would have to allow for that.

Even with that piece of info, it seems that what we consider "permanent" squad member wont work in the same way they used to.

Curious to see how they handle it but also a bit worried. I'm not sure what they are willing to change and how it's beneficial to the game. But we don't know enough to say "yay" or "nay"!

More waiting. :(

In the interest of avoiding spoilers I'll just say everyone can not die in ME2 without starting anew in ME3

You know that the changes to her style could very well be temporary? Imagine that during Shepard trial, she comes to testify in favor of Shepard. So, naturally, she dresses up formal and act all "nice" for the sake of Shepard. She might very well be totally annoyed by that but she still does it for him.

Then, she goes back to the her ME1 behavior.

That happened in DA2 with Aveline.  At first she was in ordinary clothing, but quickly got proper armor once they reached safety.

But developers were quick to point that fact out.  The silence here is...deafening...

Maybe Bioware are just afraid that drawing comparisons between ME3 and DA2 could backfire. ;)

Also, up until recently the ME team has always been very silent compared to the DA team. They're actually at a relative high point in community communication right now.

That catsuit she has on looks WAY too detailed to be a "temporary" outfit.  That is NOT a generic Aliance casual outfit.  Plus you have to figure in the Spectre Logos, that WILL be her combat outfit Posted Image

Sadly it looks like they've compromised her character for the sake of having a prominent hot women in the game in order to attract the important 14 year old boy demographic.  I'm not saying she's been "Mirandafied" but it's obvious they want that same sex appeal in ME3.  The irony is that the reason Ashley fans like the character in the first place is largely because she's a PRACTICAL soldier.  I always wanted to see her "hair down" literally and figuratively, but either on the Normandy or during a romance scene, NOT in combat.

Which is a damn crying shame, because for Christina's talk about artistic vision, it looks like it's ALREADY been compromised for the sake of marketing.

Maybe her alternate outfit will be actual armor and not just a reskin, but I have little hope of that when Bioware can sleazily charge extra for an "appearance pack" a few weeks after the game comes out.

My point is that the potential of certain squaddies to be dead will most certainly affect the way they work. I was addressing what Christina Norman said, "For those asking about "permanent" squad members, don't assume squad members will work the same way as me1 and me2."

Do the bioware people have to get their tweets approved by someone? Or has any info ever had to be removed cause it said something it shouldn't have? I know they are all professionals, but mistakes happen.

Err I doubt they need to get approved...
They state on their accounts
"Opinions expressed here are my own and not that of BioWare ULC." or something like that.

Besides I'm sure they get drilled by PR on what to say and not to say (or reveal) during the months of development.

The only tweet that confuses me a bit is the one about the animations - I can't figure if she's saying they are still tweaking that or if the current ones we saw are final for the rolling/reloading speed. Oh well, nothing but love for the respones and time they are taking to answer questions :)

There will probably be missions where different characters can join your squad but only for that one mission, or series of missions (like Liara in LOTSB). They're not joining the Normandy crew so they won't be with you as a 'permanent' choice.

I know that Casey said there were too many squad members in ME2 and he wanted to concentrate on a smaller core set of characters. That doesn't mean that all characters might not be possibilities, though. I'd guess that the core set depends on certain choices you made in previous games. E.g, there might be a limited number of crew on the Normandy made up of your LI and/or the crew you did the most missions with in ME2. It might be that Jack will never join a crew with Miranda on it, or Tali won't join if Legion is present.

It would all add to a more focused story while, at the same time, adding replay value.

Regards

Julian

@ Thrombin - to be honest I've been hoping they'd do more like that. I loved the Suicide mission where your entire squad was in action and I think with ME3 they could do alot more missions where you use squaddies/temp squaddies/"guest stars" so to speak to really add variety and weight to how many people are fighting.
