I don't know why people are upset about MP or it possibly detracting from the Single Player story, you don't bring together 8 writers and 2 editors to work on MP.

Creating good MP requires more than a story. A responsive communication protocol needs to be developed and tested, locations need to be created or adapted, talents and skills need to be balanced, an interface to select MP and other players need to be developed, a ranking system needs to see the light of day, the whole thing needs to be beta tested - are just a couple of things that comes to my mind. I just realized something:
I've never played Vanguard
In my nine or ten playthroughs of Mass Effect 1 and 5 playthroughs of Mass Effect 2, I never chose Vanguard, infact I've only ever chose Soldier, Sentinel and Infiltrator.
Adept, Engineer and Vanguard just don't appeal to me. I'm probably missing out, heard Vanguard is super fun.

While I'm predominantly a Soldier till recently, I'm in very real danger of making Vanguard Shep my main canon playthrough with Soldier Shep as secondary. ME2 made that class go from "Ho hum" in ME1 to "OMFG this is so damn awesome" in ME2 xD
Can't wait to see the new goodies!
