"Working late cooking up some awesome!!!!"

Yeah... rub it in......
Corey!! That was deliberate, you.... you..... %&ç/*(T%ZW.....
And hey, I really do appreciate you're working late!!

Oh, and why do I feel a certain amount of discomfort hearing that C.Norman is leaving...??? Even if she got a better opportunity somewhere else... I read her departure as being not very loyal to the ME3 project. This of course may have many motives - valid motives - and it need not be egotism, to be sure. Could as well be the work environment, the bosses, some policy, some personal issue... Ask yourself: you work on this high-profile, awesome Posted Image project in a prominent job.... what would it take for YOU to make you leave NOW...?? Just asking.... but I'd say something not trivial...

In any case Thank You, Christina and all the best!

From May 2011 issue of Gameinformer:

Page 59 bottom-right box showing a picture of Ashley Williams:

“Who’s back?
Over two games, Shepard has racked up a lot of friends and enemies. Though all main characters will likely return in Mass Effect 3 (if they survived this long), here is a list of who is confirmed to make appearances.

Characters that BioWare says will be playable to some extent:
LIARA
GARRUS (if he survived ME 2)
ASHLEY OR KAIDAN
JAMES SANDERS

Characters we saw or heard during our demo (possibly playable):
WREX
MORDIN
LEGION
ANDERSON

Other appearances:
UDINA
THE ILLUSIVE MAN”

There you have it, take it as you will. But I have to add that Gameinformer, being one of the most, if not the most respected publication in the gaming industry, would not print something as confirmed if it’s not confirmed by BioWare (which this is).

I wasn't talking about confirmed/not confirmed. I meant where did we get Vega or Garrus or Liara confirmed as permanent squadmates? Because the way everyone's talking about them, there has to be some news I missed, so I'm genuinely interested...

Well, we did see Liara and Garrus on the Salarian homeworld and the reaper base demo, so I'm pretty sure both of them are permanent SM, unless I'm miss informed, plus you can see Garrus on the normandy in one of the demos.

Seriously? That's a reason?

Casey Hudson: [...] Everyone – every single team character in the entire series – is in Mass Effect 3, but not necessarily as a squad member. So Wrex will be there but not necessarily as a full squad member.

The squadmates we can confirm are Garrus, Liara, Ashley or Kaiden, James Vega, and the one that we can mention that we haven’t mentioned before is Tali.

That's not the only quote, there were quite a few in that vein that all came out around the same time. I'm fairly sure I saw one that directly referred to them as permanent, full or 'main' squadmembers (if only because I distinctly remember reading it and settling my paranoid fears, I was sure Garrus was going to be temporary), but I can't seem to locate it ATM.

EDIT: Aha! That's the one I was thinking of. I knew if I kept looking I'd find it. I guess you could argue that even 'main chars' doesn't mean permanent squadmates, but it's all semantics really.

Here is a quote from Casey Husdon in a Gameinformer interview from  April 28, 2011:

"...we did do a few things to kind of keep some variables more constant, so for example Liara is not in you squad in Mass effect 2 and that allows us to ensure that she survives for everyone into Mass Effect 3 where we can make her a major character. So we've done some of those things...."

Here is the link if you want to see the whole interview:
http://www.gameinfor...s-effect-3.aspx

Granted, he doesn't say permanent but it's as close as you can get. Same thing can be said for Ashley/Kaidan. They were not in you squad in Mass effect 2 so they will be major characters in ME3. As for James Vega and Garrus. Iknow I've seen the info somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it.

Think about it, Shepard needs a basic squad to start the game off. Like Ash and Kaidan in ME1 and Miranda and Jacob in ME 2, They were available right of the bat. the same way, in ME3 Liara, Ash/Kaidan, James and Garrus will be your basic squad to start the game.

The "Shepard, you should have killed me when you had the chance." definitely points more towards Balak or Toombs. Possibly the Rachni Queen but that would be pretty lame.

The "Words every ME1 importer wants to hear." makes me think it's more about Balak because, if you chose the paragon option, he got away. Toombs doesn't quite fit into the quote as well as Balak does.

@Aris Ravenstar and @Benchpress610, thank you both for somewhat alleviating my concerns, but I hardly find any of that as confirmations... I mean sure, he may need guys to kick stuff off, but that "core" squad may easily fall off later through the game. That tweet seems to alternately describe the term "squad member" as "main character", the same thing goes for the "major" thing. I'm just trying not to build false hopes for myself.

But yeah, thanks anyway. I guess we'll have to wait for more info, cause for me, nothing's set in stone just yet.

Watch the Gamespot ME3 E3 demo
@7:56 mark you see the above

I'm not trying to be a killjoy here, but I recall in an early demo of the Illium car ride they had Ash in th back seat. The boards went nuts, only to get Horizon. So until Bioware outright says Tali is a squaddie, I'd assume nothing.

Tali was confirmed as squadmate in PCGamer magazine preview of ME3 by Casey Hudson...

Could be the Rachni queen.

Makes more sense than Tombs, Balak was DLC and not every one played BDTS and it would give that whole "your actions have consequences" thing into a better light for paragons and the three renegades that may have saved the queen.

Personaly I'd think it would be pretty cool if the rachni or a large number of them got indoctronated and became an enemy in game.

It really could be large number of characters that Shep 'should have killed when he had the chance.'

I want to say Kai Leng, but probably a long shot. Plus not sure he ever met Shepard before.

He specifically said " Words every ME1 importer wants to hear.", so it is a ME1 character. Kai Leng wasn't in ME1

I don't see how it could even qualify as a long shot when the character did not exist in the game.

That line is about as far from the Queen's speech patterns as you can get. I strongly doubt it's her.

Anyway, we already know at least some Rachni get turned into Reaper footsoldiers. So... well, I guess we Paragons get some nice target practice, and extra XP, while Renegades are yet again left empty-handed. :P

I think it's been paraphrased to make it a little more ambiguous.

I don't think the quotation has to do with someone from ME1 that either paragons or renegades got to choose is alive. Marketing up the paragon playstyle would just put off renegade players. (although some cannon seems to have done that around here).

I can't remember if renegades got the opportunity to kill toombs, or if toombs survives. I don't think it's balak, because obviously, if you were renegade he wouldn't be alive.

Udina comes to mind. Although when did we really have the opportunity to kill him in ME1. It could be the asari that we saved from the thorian.. although again, renegade could have killed her outright. Oh man, it could be conrad vernor.. when you pressed the gun to his head. Maybe he's got a cerberus squad at his command, or bargained with the reapers to be as powerful as shepard. That'd be awesome. Killing conrad vernor.

"Replaced sounds ok. Just annoyed that PS3 players are being treated like we didn't play ME1, even though many played it on PC."

"Yeah, that's a tough place to be. We plan for "Played, Importing" and "Didn't Play." No way to write for "Played, no import."
