Oh you...rearranging the word permanent to describe how non linear ME3 is...making me think no squadmember is permanent...
Or maybe not!

This is really one aspect of ME3 that has me worried. I know you need to progress inside the story, but having teammates just tag along for a few hours and leave is kind of a disappointement.

Not necessarily, IMHO. If they join temporarily and have a good reason to leave again because of some storyplot for their char, it may be entertaining and make sense. Maybe ME3 wants to avoid that you keep running around with your same 2 personal fav mates for the whole time, to some degree forcing you to adopt a different playstyle depending who you have in the squad... again, it may be entertaining or it maybe somewhat annoying... if it's nicely integrated in the story I am not against it. At this point I would just say "let's see"...DTKT wrote...

You're not the only one.
I abhore with a passion games that have nothing but temporary team mates.
May as well just make them generic NPCs for all the caring i'll give towards them if they're only temporary.

But shouldn't that decision be mine to make and not be forced onto me?
If I want to run around and only ever use Ash and Liara or Tali and Garrus, then shouldn't that be my choice to make?
Permanent means I'll care about them and look after them as they'll always be there when I need them.
Temporary means I won't really give a **** as they'll be gone soon anyway so why bother investing any emotional attachment to them?

Even a children's book like Harry Potter has character deaths. So why can't a Mature rated game have them? I know I will just deal with it, even if it's Ashley that will fade away. It makes the story more tragic, which is a good thing imo.

Ah, Sure. Because it's a really "rewarding" way of going on about it, not letting people keep their favorites in their squad. After 2 games and 5 or so years of waiting. Yeah.

It's a war, people die. Quite understandable that not every teammate is going to make it.

What a shame.....
We all feared this would be the way they would go with squad memebers.
Farscape : The Peacekeeper wars was a story of "Full scale war", but John Chriton still had Dargo and Aeryn by his side.
I understand that from a gameplay perspective they have to do things this way.... still a bit of a bummer, for everyone.
The question remains: who the hell is gonna be on the Normandy if [u]almost every squad memember is temporary?

I don't understand why a separate thread was made, or why people are suprised. Nobody has ever been confirmed as permanent. It's just more set in stone now. I think it's better to learn and appreciate portions of a story with characters designed to go with them, rather than stubbornly 'sticking' to a favorite and limiting your experience.

Could be the Rachni queen.
Makes more sense than Tombs, Balak was DLC and not every one played BDTS and it would give that whole "your actions have consequences" thing into a better light for paragons and the three renegades that may have saved the queen.
Personaly I'd think it would be pretty cool if the rachni or a large number of them got indoctronated and became an enemy in game.
"Shepard. You should have killed me when you had the chance."
That line is about as far from the Queen's speech patterns as you can get. I strongly doubt it's her.
Anyway, we already know at least some Rachni get turned into Reaper footsoldiers. So... well, I guess we Paragons get some nice target practice, and extra XP, while Renegades are yet again left empty-handed.
Meh... it was made pretty clear in ME2 the Rachni Queen was grateful and ready to help Shepad.... My prime suspect would be Fist. He was decidely hostile towards Shep in ME2

Well the showcase of RPG elements implied this notion. There were paragon/renegade bars even for squadmembers and some forum members thought that this might have something to do with the loyalty system similar to what we have seen in DA:O (although it could be due to the early stages of developement)...noisecode wrote...
