Nobody else shot the Baby in the mouth then?

Not me, most of the time I've use the Cain against the Reaper, I've missed, thanks to my bad timing. Personally, I don't use it that often, although, it certainly came in handy dealing with the Reaper core and David on Insanity.

Foolishly taking it out against the Shadow Broker and nuking myself instead. Funny seeing my Shepard evaporate into a cloud of ash.

So I was playing through ME2 last night, went to get the Reaper IFF, and took the Cain with me. Once I got to the room with the ME core, I fired up the nuke and nuked the bastard. And that was it. No fighting the husks. No running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to avoid being cornered by the husks lol. And yes, this was on Insanity.

So in my opinion, this is definitely one of the most effective uses of the Cain. What's yours?

1. The mission with the YMIR mechs destroying the valuable cargo.
2. The ME core on the derelict reaper
3. Any time a Praetorian shows it's ugly face.
4. In Garrus's loyalty mission where the two YMIR mechs drop on you right before you get to harkin.
5. Thresher Maw
6. Human Reaper can usually be killed in two shots from it.  harbinger drops ammo for it when you kill him.
7. The final fight with the Geth Prime in tali's loyalty mission.
8. The gunship in Samara's recruitment mission.
9. Whenever I'm pissed off and I want to give someone an atomic suppository.

1. I did that the hard way, but i will make a note to try this.
2. On my casual walkthrough... yeah nuked that SOB AFTER i ran around for the pick ups... sprint ftw.
3. Dam straight - this is the whole purpose of the Duke Nukem gun.
4. Nah did that the hard way too, didnt really bother me about shooting those 2 up as there is plenty of good cover.
5. Never once killed it without a Cain round down its throat.
6. Actually never managed to get a round to actually land home as that damn thing moves super fast for its size.
7. I actually 1 shot the Collossus on my casual playthrough then i removed 90% of its health on my insanity run.
8. Yep, been there, done that, got the T-shirt.
9. Just out of curiosity, yeah whenever i am pissed about something i let one rip at normal mobs (even though i swiftly hit F9 shortly after). Makes me feel better.

Wasn't able to one-shot the baby this time... just hit some random part of its upper chest... but I just noticed there's a weak spot right in the middle of its chest that I never realized was there before... maybe I shot it there on my previous tries...?
For anyone who hasn't spotted it... you only see it when it pushes itself up high.

But at least I can consistently hit the damn thing now. Arm the Cain the moment the battle starts, charge up right away, and aim low at the chest - the biggest and easiest target... NOT the face!
Only time I ever missed was from aiming for the face.

Incinerating those seeker swarms on Horizon. Except no matter how many times I collect ammo and fire, they never disappear entirely...

Nah, probably the human reaper baby. Nuclear abortions and all that.

The fun thing about the Cain and the Colossus in Tali's recruitment mission, is that you can fire and hit from the balcony above Kal'Reegar. So bypassing the cutscene and the battle in the courtyard.

I tried that once on Veteran... it had some armor left and went in to repair mode.
Now I always close in before I nuke it.
Somehow it died in one shot this time, though. o.O

Hardly ever use the cain.
However there is one moment, when it's just too much fun, not to do it. Remember on Purgatory when you enter the room where you open SuZes cryo-chamber? There is one civilian in there, all on his own, I think he has a pistol. He definitely needs a Cain shot to the head!

Also it is a shame we can't mod weapon choice in cut scenes (can we?):
Just sayin': "Conrad ... let me make this perfectly clear."

I always aim for the Reaper's eye. As soon as I fire, I activate slow mo, and watch the glowing projectile glide silently through the air into the machine's head.

I used mine to blow up the Hammerhead after the Suicide Mission. We used the scrap metal to repair the hull breeches in the cargo bay. And here I thought it was just a really obnoxious paper weight.

Effective uses of the Cain are many. But in my Insanity playthroughs, there are some battles that would have been frustrating without it, maybe even caused me to give up:

(1) Reaper IFF - the Reaper's ME core. I tried this battle several times without shooting the core with the Cain, and died every single time.

(2) Suicide Mission, The Long Walk, last battle. Using the Cain on the Scion will deprive it of 35% of its armor *and* kill the first wave of Husks. That will make the battle quite a bit easier, especially for non-Soldiers. Killing the Scion before it reaches your cover is otherwise difficult on Insanity.

(3) Project Overlord, final boss. Using the Cain here avoids an annoyingly protracted battle.

There's a mission where rogue YMIR mechs are destroying boxes, and you get paid at the end of the mission based on how many boxes are left.

If you fire the Cain just right at the beginning of the mission, you kill all 3 mechs in one shot and the boxes are unharmed. That was the only time I felt like I used the Cain well.

^This. I actually play the entire game with a modded Coalesced.ini with the heavy weapons slot switched for autopistols. It was the only time I found the Cain was necessary in order to save all the crates. Using it had certain...side effects.

I equipped for one situation in ME2: Reaper IFF. Playing on Insanity with a brand new character and the Mattock rifle I just did not want to deal with all those husks.

I nuked that thing the first chance I got.

Other than that I don't really use heavy weapons unless I am out of ammo for real weapons (SMG doesn't count for range). I prefer the challenge and tactical aspect of using my squad's powers and moving about the battlefield for almost all fights.

3 I used it on the Praetorian on Horizon, on Insanity. If you one shot it as soon as it appears (with only armour) it cutscenes to its ground stomp and the thing reappears with full barrier and half armour. Tremendously annoying, considering other minibosses you can just toast 'em in one go.

8. There's a trick to the gunship in Samara's recruitment mission. There's a room before the walkway where the gunship spawns (as you come out of it, you have a crate of power cells in front of you and the walkway to your left). Run out to the middle of the walkway to spawn the gunship, then instantly run back to the room you came out of, summoning your squadmates with you. You can all sit in the doorway and take potshots at it, and its mingun can't touch you. Just be careful with the doggie mechs it drops occasionally, they do make it into that room.  Credit to the videos on youtube I saw of this.

Like others have already said:

I found it most useful for the three mechs/20 crates mission & the Colossus during Tali's recruitment.
On my first time using it though, I thought I killed Kal'Reeger too, when I heard him scream during the blast.Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image
Left me thinking "oh sh*t Tali's not going to like this" till I saw him show up in the cutscene.

I have only once used the Cain upgrade and found it largely useless. For me, it's always the Collecter Particle Beam and nothing more. I really like the irony of using the Collectors' own weapon against them.

This thread may change my mind, though.

I shot the baby in the mouth!

This actually happened. I had the whole thing planned & prepared for my first Mass Effect playthrough. I did it on Hardcore, Cain at 200% (turn off Autosave, it disables the off hand ammo pack). I bring the Reaper down to 50% health or so and then just as it begins charging an attack. Double Cain shot (You can fire the 2nd immediately after the first) while screaming an action movie one liner.

It was glorious and I believe for a few seconds the screen had a strange whiteness to it due to the 2nd Cain shot. Best moment in video game history. I don't use it on anything else though but will try on the Colossus & Thresher Maw

The weak points of the human Reaper are the eyes, chest & mouth when charging apparently.
You can't actually one shot it.

Being attached to my backside.

I only used it once and that was too what it was like, i prefer the collector particle beam way more.

I've never actually been able to use the cain, basically because of the ammo requirements, so I usually stick with the collector particle bean as well.

It was very effective at torching my squad. Except for that, I never did figure out how to use it effectively.

I mostly used the collector particle beam.

When I first started playing the game, I was all over the Collector Particle Beam. Then I discovered the arc projector. Now I use the arc projector if I'm not anticipating nasty boss and the Cain if I am.

I guess I kind of go against the grain, but if I'm not rolling with the Cain, I usually use the ML77.  The CPB is a nice weapon, but you have to hang your head out of cover to use it.  With the ML77, pop up and launch a couple of missiles and pop down.  Works great.  Also use the Arc Projector some too.  It's murder on Geth.

Mainly as a ground-pounder, to speed up battles I find would be problematic if dragged on too long and that don't require me to invest too much in heavy weaponry previously or afterwards, so mainly three situations:
1. The three YMIR mechs in the Eclipse depot...
2. Jedore, "Open your mouth and say 'ahhhh', b****!"...
3. The Colossus, damn geth just keep popping up every second...
