Thanks. :)
Was that the wrestler's stage name or his real name?:?

Stage name, his real name is Dwayne Douglas Johnson, or normally just Dwayne Johnson.

aka the Scorpion King.

Not for great science, but good solid entertainment: Quantum Leap and Enterprise w/ Scott Bakula.

:o:o:o:o:o
That is who it was?
Boy do I feel stupid......

Maybe read some sci-fi books while it winds its way back to the screen?

Any advice on space opera books/sagas? Closer to BSG or Starship Troopers (book, minus the fascist utopia). I like what I´ve read of The Culture, but technology is way over the top.

What about these:

The Hungry City Chronicles:
Mortal Engines (2001)
Predator's Gold (2003)
Infernal Devices (2005)
A Darkling Plain (2006)

The Dark Series:
The Dark Wing (2001)
The Dark Path (2003)
The Dark Ascent (2004)
The Dark Crusade (2005)

Showing my age here, but if you can grab the collection of works of Ray Bradbury (and good friend of Ray Harryhausen of film fame), those stories and tales are top notch, and still relevent.

so I just watched the last ever episode of Stargate Universe and possibly the last chapter of Stargate ever... a good show that grew to become great and died far too early. with Caprica (a bit iffy at points but good overall) and V (a see-saw show, some good, some bad but had potential) already dead and buried it seems there just isn't that much sci-fi TV left anymore. there hasn't been any Star Trek since Enterprise, Babylon 5 isn't even likely to have any more TV movies (it's Crusade spinoff being another show that died without ever getting a real chance) and now Stargate is gone with no spinoff planned and apparently plans for TV movies all cancelled

so can anyone recomend some good sci-fi that's still alive? I've tried Dr Who and just never got into it for some reason. someone in US TV networks obviously thinks that reality TV and WWE wrestling count as sci-fi but shockingly I disagree. so I'm struggling to find something. there's still good shows on TV (thankfully Castle's been renewed, House has it's ups and downs but remains a good show and Game of Thrones is good so far) but there's a sci-fi shaped gap in my TV watching habits

IMO Fringe is one of the most well-written series on television

I could be wrong, but I swear that the one guy on fringe played Denethor in The Lord of the Rings

Just to stick up for my fellow Trekkers, Deep Space:9 is considered by some to be the best of the franchise, and the war displayed in the final seaon was amazing! Highly recommended!

Hear hear, the Dominion war was the best war ever in the franchise. I really miss the show, even though i think it had some really weak episodes. I also loved TNG, Voyager turned out to get better in the end but i never got along with the last Enterprise show.

Anyway, Babylon 5 was the best sci-fi show ever made. :P

Agree re: Dominion War. Really good stuff, some of the two parters were fantastic. I remember with great fondness the anticipation I would feel waiting for the next VHS to come out ...

I miss DS:9, the later stuff in particular (sure took a while to get going). I still think that show had some really good character development, both core characters (Bashir, especially) and the secondary characters like Nog and Damar. And I loved Terry Farrell.

I didn't care for Bashir so much. He wasn't portrayed as a very strong character, not like Kira, Dax, Sisko, even O'Brien. And speaking of Dax, I wish Nicole de Boer had had more time with that character. She was so cute!

Ah, I loved the way Bashir went from a bit of a loudmouthed buffoon to someone kind of quiet and bitter over the course of the show. And I adored the relationship between him and O'Brien, it was a real bromance. Colm Meaney was fantastic in the role, but then is fantastic anyway. Same with Avery Brooks (met him once, nice bloke).

Agree re: Nicole deBoer. Though I was gutted when Jadzia died, it's kind of a shame it didn't happen sooner in a way, Ezri was a sweet character - I just felt that I didn't really have time to get to know her very well.

Check out the Twilight Zone, the original series. Old I know, but it had brilliant ideas for every episode.

The Clone Wars is still going! That's an excellent show IMO.

What about The 4400? It's the story of 4400 people abducted by aliens over the last 60? 100? years, who all miraculously reappear in the same place in modern day. Each abductee starts exhibiting powers. I enjoyed it a lot more than Heroes.

Anyone watch Haven? is that any good?

Ms de Boer was the Merril of her crew, and Siddig & Ms Visitor may have been busier behing the scenes with the entire marriage and baby thing. I pref him on 24.

Lately Sci-fi has taken a back seat to fantasy imo. Nothing in the genre stands out right now.

It kinda looks that way. If it had to be some sort of either-or setting, I'd welcome it. God knows there hasn't been any good Fantasy in TV like..ever.(Before GoT  tha' is)

The wooooooorld of tomorrow looks pretty good though, if uncertain.
...For in remotely distant future looms Dark tower, based on Stephen King's magnum opus. It's a dark sci-fi/fantasy type of a thing with heaptons of potential.
HBO has Year Zero in the works, something very similar in mood and setting to Children of men and V vor Vendetta.

Bah, I hate myself for waiting  tv shows that aren't even being filmed yet.:l

Edit,
Oops, looks like Dark Tower is now apparently set for a movie trilogy, not TV show.

Agreed, much better than Heroes.  Although the continous ressurection of dead cast members got a litle annoying after a while.  Braga, who was behind the story line on DS9 was behind the 4400 too, wasn't he?

It's okay, bordering on good with some episodes, the problem I have with it is that the central character has all the charisma of a baked potato.  The supporting cast is pretty good though.

Well if you're willing to read a book Elizabeth Moon's 'Vatta's War' series was nearly perfect as far as I'm concerned.
