Maybe I am just crazy, but it really bugs me that I can't explore every ince of a map/area.  Specifically the area in the Deep Roads Expedition Map during Act 1.  Prior to bumping into Sandal, on the map there is a room off to the left that has a door.  There is a second door, back where the monstrous spider was defeated.  I can't figure out how to access it.  Is there some trick, does it appear later in the game, or is it simply just not used?

It's probably used in Fool's Gold as I can't remember it opening in Finding Nathaniel.
Either that or they just didn't use it. But yeah, it sort of bugs me as well. The most frustrating thing is when you can see inaccessible areas on the minimap as I use the minimap to mentally make sure I've scrounged every torn pants I can find. :(
Oh and if you can't see anything behind it on the minimap the door probably is just a decoration or something?

But yeah, the reuse of maps is pretty ridiculous. I remember how excited I got when I decided to kill DePuis and got to see a whole new section of the generic hightown map. It was amazing.. had balconies, cool lightings, a library... and I had never seen it before!!
ahh if only the whole game was like that.

The whole game is like that. If a section of that cave/house/etc is not used in for the quest you're currently on it will be closed off with a door that can't be opened.
The recycling was horrendous.

I was referring to the whole experience of seeing a new un-recycled area; Another example would be when you go into that dank cave (wounded coast) for the first time. The whole "it's a cave but it's not the same cave!!" feeling is quite amazing. Probably because my expectations are so low.

So I most certainly do not want more doors to be inexplicably un-openable or to encounter more of those random grey slabs in caves. Eurgh, recycled maps are probably the biggest flaw in DA2 for me (on par with the reduction in meaningful companion conversations)

I do know what you mean though. Hopefully Bioware will do better next time.
