Hi, I currently play as a mage in Awakening with (Spirit Healer, Arcane Warrior, Battlemage) specializations, & his more of a caster type, I got the Arcane Warrior for the bonuses & shimmering shield & stuff, right now I can't decide which robe is better for him, both the Reaper's Vestments & Spellminder look tempting, hope someone gives me some advice... thanks.

Well, it's:
+8 Armor
+8 Magic
+1 Mana Regen in Combat

vs.
+12 Armor
+6 constitution
+20% Fire Resist
+16% Spell Resist
+10% Chance to dodge

Spellminder is a bit more offensive. But for a typical mage, +/- 8 spellpowerdoesn't make much of a difference in Awakening. The Mana Regen... well... honestly, I was never really happy with such gear. As long as we are talking standard bioware items, I found it pretty useless. Even when you wear nothing but mana regen equipment, you still need plenty of potions. Finally, the armor difference between the two is totally irrelevant.

Reaper is more defensive. You get constitution, which is always very nice (and even a lot of it, considering we are talking typically low-con mages here). The Fire Resist is ok, but not breathtaking. Few enemies actually lob Fireballs at you, and you can get Fire Resist on a lot of other gear. 16% Spell Resistance on the other hand is downright amazing. It's a very rare stat, and 16% of it, all on a single piece of eqiupment is pretty great. Add to that the 10% dodge thing and you have a really lovely piece of cloth.

Long Story Short: Reaper all the way.

Have you played through Witch Hunt? You can unlock Vestments of the Seer, which is the best mage robe, in my opinion.

To answer the original question, it comes down to whether you prefer offense or defense.  Why not keep both and try them out to see if you need the extra armor+constitution, or of you would find the extra spellpower more useful?

@ Arthur... No I haven't gotten Witch Hunt yet, but yeah I saw the robe you get & it's a really great robe.

@ digi_ronin... My mage is kinda leaning to the offensive type, but in battles I use shimmering shield & rock armor the most to boost my armor, since when they come at me most of the time they manage to hit me so I decided to go with increasing armor, & the reason the Spellminder looked interesting was for the mana regen stat, but since you gave a good explanation & reason for both of them, I think am gonna use the Reaper, & I like the Reaper's blue color more than the Spellminder's gray :D

Feel free to go with Reaper's Vestments at that point.

In Awakening there is plenty of gear to boost spellpower that you can afford to go defense with the robe.

Some suggested gear that you may or may not already have is:
Staff: Spellfury
Head: Toque of the Oblivious
Ring: Ring of Mastery+Ring of Discipline
Gloves: Oven Mitts
Boots: Winter Boots
Belt: Sash of Forbidden Secrets

Also, don't forget about talents like spell wisp and spell might to further boost spellpower.

Thanks for your suggestions Arthur, those really are one of the best mage items, & I have most of them besides the sash of forbidden secrets.

btw, which staff is better & packs more punch, the Spellfury or the Staff of the Lost? also which staff is good for a blood mage? right now besides my mage, I'm building Anders as my blood mage, & most of his equipment grant him con. & spellpower which is really good & in fights he's more stronger than my mage, but can't decide what's a good staff for him, right now he has the Charlatan's Walking stick.
