When I open the VFX editor in the toolset it is greyed out. How do I activate it.

Are you creating a new resource or editing an existing resource? If it is an existing resource i.e. a BioWare .vfxproj file you may find the source files are flagged as Read Only (mine certainly are) so you'll have to change is properties using Explorer. If it is a BioWare file I recommend making a copy first!
