I agree that Bioware is more limited than they like, but this is also the first time anything remotely like this has been done.
Yup. Give them an award for it. They are still limited by the practical problems facing them concerning time, effort, money, and disc space.

Liara was a temporary squadmate in LotSB. It is true. In one of the missions of it, she's there. i didn't say ME2, I said LotSB. This is how temp squaddies will most likely work.
That's probably how they will work. However, popular LIs should not get special treatment over non-popular. They should all be on the same level and all be under the LI title and placed where the LI would reside on the ship.

You have a problem with potentially dead characters returning in Bioware games? Fine, I see no fault there. What I do have a problem with is the fact that (you guys know who you are) come into these threads and argue against proven facts -
No one (and I mean no one) can logically argue that ME2 characters cannot appear as permanent companions in ME3. ME2 characters appearing as full squadmates has been proven by Casey/Bioware in multiple interviews, in which he confirms Garrus' role as a permanent companion numerous times.
Those against ME2 squadmates in ME3 SHOULD NOT respond to Garrus/Tali fans bait. Ignore it. Simply create a thread (preferably one that has zero chance of being interpreted as flame-bait) and calmly, POLITELY state to Bioware that you disagree with giving one character more importance over an equally qualified character.
Anybody arguing against proven facts at this point do so because -
A) They are trolls enjoying the show

If I had to accomplish this on limited resources, I'd put Miranda, Jack, Thane, and Jacob in a pool where you can pick one to have with you on the ship (this might have to happen a bit later in the game, for resource purposes). Thus you can get your LI back no matter what, but Bioware can just "Kaishley" them for a lot of the missions, having them say pretty much the same things, only from their unique perspectives. Hopefully doing a slightly better job of differentiating them than Horizon, but you get the picture. Heck, all four of those characters could easily embody the role of "the new kid..." the person who doesn't know who Kaidan and Ashley are, doesn't particularly care, and has a more negative (or neutral) perspective regarding the council and the alliance.
The only reason I didn't include Tali and Garrus in this group is that a lot of opposite sex players "bro or sis" these two characters, and I think they probably have a bit more non-love interest appeal, based on a lot of polls I've seen, articles I've read elsewhere on the internet, etc. Still, this setup wouldn't prevent me from picking up Jack or Thane to bro around with, if I have one of the other LIs.
I don't know if this idea is tenable, but it's what I'd try if I were producing this game.

Miranda isn't just a sex object. She is a very layered character if you give the whole romance the time.
If you say so...
It's kind of a Tifa Lockheart situation, there. She's so busy bouncing in the breeze that this is all the cynic is going to see, but there's a decently-written character under there. I like her. I just find her outfit a bit overdone and impractical for what she's usually getting up to with Shepard's squad (although I guess that's why she has a Cerberus Armor getup in Alternate Appearance Pack 2).

What's also bad about that is that the squad is confirmed to be smaller and there's no new LI. Talk about bull****
Really? Not just "new" romancess with same old ones?
Exactly how was the tweet worded? It could be implying that you have the option to start something with a potential LI from the previous games if you hadn't done so already.

.@JA9777 @skx23 #ME3 will have relationships with new characters and old friends, some of it romantic. Beyond that, spoiler territory!

I'm all for that as I want as many of us to get what they want as possible. But it would be understandable if BioWare had to prioritise the LIs who are most popular. Sadly their resources and time are limited.Niddy' wrote...

Ideally, all of the LI's have potential to be on the squad and travelling with you on your ship. However, if some of them have Important Stuff to Do that Helps Immensely, then I think that would be fine as long as there's equal conversation time. To be fair, though, Thane was dying and Jack is, well, Jack. There may be legitimate reasons why a person isn't a permanent squadmate that winds up making their stories even more awesome than what you get from another character. For example, Tali didn't join up with you until later in ME2, but you got to ride to her rescue, which seems like it's probably pretty appealing to the fans who like her as a romance. She also delivered some information that I strongly suspect will play a big role in ME3, one way or another.
