I recently watched a video interview about the Asari species, when, lo and behold, a missing concept art of a male Asari was mentioned. So I thought I'd paint my own up, becuse hey, the Asari are just so ...well, aesthetically gifted.

Reminds me of a Qunari. Good artwork but I like the fact that the Asari were made monogendered. Adds a little diversity to the galactic scene.

Yeah, male Asari should probably never be canon, considering the species' history and culture in general. It wouldn't make sense, but I can sure as hell paint one if I want, and enjoy it.

I thought up something like this a little while ago. Never had any artistic skills so I didn't draw it but "his" name was Mordicant Adonis. "He" was born on Tuchanka before the official discovery of the Krogan people. His mother was a rogue commando who crashed her ship on Tuchanka while evading the pursuit of a team Justicars. She survived because of her immense biotic powers, one of the highest of any asari ever. The attempt at her capture is one of only a scant handful of instances were several Justicars worked together. She became a sort of goddess to a small tribe of krogan, the Mordicants, and mated with the strongest of them. From that union came Mordicant Adona. Adona was a freak, she possessed no biotic powers. Her mother abandoned her, leaving her care only to the tribe. Adona's mother continued to have children with the krogan until several tribes seeking to cleanse the monster from Tuchanka attacked the Mordicants. Adona's mother was killed as were several of her siblings but eventually they were able to drive off the attacking tribes. Even at this time Adona was training to be a warrior with the krogan. After many years Adona was the must skilled warrior among the Mordicants and Adona killed off his siblings secretly, one by one, until Adona was the only asari left on Tuchanka. When the uplifting occured Adona saw her, still a she at this time, chance to become something greater. She convinced some of the turians who came to train the krogan that she was part of the first contact team and had been left behind, presumed dead. She was taken to the Citadel to wait to be reunited with the rest of the team. Adona snuck away and began life among the stars. During the Krogan Rebillions she worked secretly on the side of the krogan, taking down asari operations from the inside. Adona took the failure of the Krogan Rebillions personally. She saw the krogan as her true people as her mother and family, symbolizing all asari to her, abandoned her. She thought that if she could be stronger than she could have turned the tide for the krogan. To this end she decided to drive all weakness from her body so that the next time a chance came for the krogan to take control again she would be powerful enough to ensure their victory. To this end Adona found not only a salarian doctor who could cast off the accursed femininity of the asari but also fuse her with krogan DNA. The doctor did so however the krogan DNA fusion did not go very well. It simply left him, for he was now male and changed his name to Adonis, with the internal aspects of the krogan: redundant organs and nervous system, regeneration and incredibly dense muscle tissue. Adonis had taken on no outward physical traits of a krogan, except height and a slightly denser head crest. Adonis killed the doctor for his shoddy work.
Functionally Adonis is a soldier, he never gained the ability to use biotics and instead focused on weapons training. His genetic modification give him radically increased health and he has regeneration on par with any krogan.

I'm not sure what to think about that, but I feel like it might be a good thing for me.

As ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and well-done (and good looking <3 ) as the drawing is, I now must painfully wash the image from my memories to hide my feelings of longing, knowing that something as awesome as this can not exist in the established ME universe.

Thanks a lot, Hexonymous. D': D': D':

Assuming, of course, I could stomach the character's personality. :P

But, alas, it was not to be.  The asari are what they are and there is no retconning that...nor should there be.  But daayum, that was a good effort on your part, OP.

ROFL. This.

Honestly, I would be a lot happier if they were somewhere in-between, truly androgynous looking. Or maybe this masculine variant could be a genetic anomaly like the ardat yakshi.

Yes, had the concept not already been set in stone, that is how I'd imagine them. There's something neat about a species that you can't assign preconceived notions of gender to, so that you meet them for what they are from a neutral perspective, or as much as you can. Though that one bit of dialogue in ME1(I believe) where several species claimed the Asari was most like them in appearance makes me wonder exactly *what* everyone(in game) perceives.

Maybe we're all hypnotized, and the asari are actually squids. Or rather, since we can't truly have our perspectives tweaked that way, Bioware just went from the most generic beauty that would appeal to the largest demographic. Not to mention it's just classic blue alien chick sci-fi. Though damn, I'd like to see some face variation at least. Samara looked pretty cool, but I miss sleek and slender--scary. Give them women some cheekbone and scowl. Oh yeaaah.

On another note, maybe there is a male varient. Only it's seen as an atrocious deformation among the species, so they are kept behind closed doors for menial labor, oblivious to their potential appeal among other aliens. I'd imagine they'd look pretty strange to a race used to seeing all female-esque proportions.
