Does anyone else besides me find that the best tactic to fighting blood mages on nightmare is to deny them sources of blood heals. By letting the rest of your party fall in battle and taking the blood mage on one-on-one, it seems to work best. You can control when you attack, when you retreat and best of all, not have to worry about idiotic AI screwing up the fight. Even if the blood mage has henchmen, this tactic works well, as the blood mage will friendly fire his henchmen while you can avoid or draw enemies into blood swirls. This tactic seems to work best for support spec'd mage hawke but with a good bit of hit and run I'm sure a rogue/warrior would do well (as long as you had a few heal potions for the occassional screw up.)
Best tactic to fighting a blood mage? Let your party go down! (nightmare lvl)

Best tactic is to walk over to them and stab them in the face. Twin fangs or assassinate = instant dead blood mage.

The best tactic, as with any encounter, is just kill 'm. See my sig for On the loose (Huon) or The Last Holdouts for bloodmage fights, both done as mage.
Not as support specced mage, as I don't believe in support nor tank with DA2. Just killing them all works best, unlike DAO, where it could be beneficial to have a tank/healer/etc.

There are many ways.
If you can't kill them outright then evade the blood swirls or interrupt the spellcasting. When you see the swirl on the ground you will have a little bit of time before the spell hits, use that to either interrupt (e.g. Stonefist, Horror) or order your companions to move outside the AoE.

They aren't that hard, if they are using Blood Heal, just use dispel magic or pommel strike to knock them out of it.

Somehow strange that they even heal themself if you are spirit immune and didnt take any damage from it.

the heal is a separate mechanic and is not based on the spirit damage.

Still doesnt make sense(how they heal if not by damaging enemies).
