I haven't played Mass Effect 2 for quite some time now but I really want to get back into it now that I have all these shiny new content to enjoy I really want to start playing it again but on a much harder difficult thinking hardcore (I want a real challenge) but it sucks cause I don't know what class to play I tried the Vanguard but it seemed to hard like sometimes I would just biotic charge and rambo in but of course that doesn't go to well lol and it just seems way to hard (as it is supposed to) but I keep saying to myself are Vanguards fit to take on this difficulty? Cause fighting in melee can really suck on hardcore

Can anyone please suggest to me a class that's incredibly fun I just can't seem to choose a class and stick with it well the only classes I have tried are Soldiers, Vanguards and Sentinels so any help or feedback will be much appreciated also what party members I should use? Also is it possible to get enough Paragon through a play through to do those paragon options which seem really hard to get for instance the fight between jack and mirranda I heard even if you do your paragon really well you can still fall short on paragon points on doing the paragon option that's the only strange thing I find about this game you need to think logical in what you say and get the max Paragon points you can possibly earn through conversations/actions but still fall short in some conversations it kind of sucks but sorry for the long post just would like some feedback on some experienced players that can help me through this playthrough.

Vanguards are actually very powerful on even the highest difficulty. Check the stickied guides thread. There are videos too to show how much you can get out of the class. I'm not even a particularly good player, but even I can destroy things on insanity with the class. Takes a bit of practice though.

As for other classes to try, it's impossible for us to say which one you will like the most. You have to try them yourself to find out.

Sentinels would be what I'd suggest.

Probably the most versatile class; You can easily shift game play to something you feel more comfortable with : Casting, Shooting or "Tanking". Similarly the Sentinel is very squad friendly ; Just be sure to take one ammo power with you (Either through bonus power or with Squaddies): You can Cc with Throw or Cryo and Strip defences with Warp & Overload .

As for the P/R options : Yeah its a little fubar. Its a ratio of how many opportunity you had to gain points and how many you got. So if you visited places where you could get points but didn't get any , it would lower your effective P/R score. I prefer to go all in one or the other personally because of that. But it shouldn't affect your game all that much , just check the Suicide mission thread to place your squad correctly and you should have no problem finishing the game without any loses.

Does the Sentinels shield absorb a lot of damage even on Hardcore? I heard the shield can be a bit weak from what I have heard or do Sentinels find Hardcore mode easy?

Assault Armor is quite tough even on insanity, particularly when you have the Hard Shields and Redudant Field Generator upgrades. You'll have to reactivate it often, but it's not so bad. It also has an AoE knockdown effect when it's destroyed.

I know every class can complete insanity if played right but is there classes out there that can do insanity a lot easier then others? or are they all sort of even?

Honestly? I think Widow/Mattock soldier and Assault Armor sentinel are the easiest. Vanguard becomes very easy but is tougher to learn.

what's the point of a infiltrator if a soldier can do their job just as good?

He's not lying. Widow/Mattock Soldier makes Insanity pretty easy. I had one, only died 3-4 times. The Sentinel is a little harder but after the middle of the game you're invincible and prepared for just about any situation. Depends on whether you want to be tough early and get bored fast or semi-tough early and still have the fun of powers.

+1 I actually think Soldier is the best class to get acquainted/re-acquainted with ME2 with.

Yes, Tech Armor is good beyond all reason. It's actually been demonstrated that a Sentinel can beat Insanity mode with nothing but Assault Armor.

cloaking, slow mo WIDOW sniping, CCing everything, even incinerate and hacking work great as extra abilities. the vanguard is second only because chargeing just never gets old, but its a fairly distant second.

.......the adept atleast has singularity.

Use Stasis on them, aim for the head (Widow), wait til Stasis wears off, shoot YMIR (in the head) when it's falling (when falling down weapons and powers do like 10x more damage than normal - it's a bug, but a quick way to dispose YMIRs, Geth Primes, Scions and the like).

Stasis is a bonus power but you'll need the Shadow Broker DLC to get access to it.

Here's a video showing how you can one-shot a YMIR with the Claymore:

www.youtube.com/watch

It's a bit cheap, but very effective. And YMIRs are easy anyway, it only takes a long time to destroy em, Stasis speeds up the process :)

Completing the Shadow Broker DLC (once) will unlock Stasis bonus power. You can respec bonus power on Normandy anytime. Beware though that Stasis is bugged (at least on PC), it's not possible to select Stasis bonus power at character creation. You'll have to recruit Mordin to unlock Normandy's research - but you can respec straight away and complete all other mission with Stasis bonus power, if you'd like to.

Thank you for this I currently have a infiltrator but seeing that video wants me to go a vanguard haha I don't know what class to make it is so frustrating

I want to play on insanity though

All classes are fun to play, but Vanguard is a great option to start with. ME2 is worth playing for Charge alone, it's such a cool power to use and it will get you comfortable with CQC fighting (though it does take some time to figure out how powerful Charge really is - check the sticky for guides and other info).

The skill you've learned at the Vanguard will come in handy when you try another class. Personally I have the most fun playing an in-your-face-style Adept or Engineer. Shotguns and using powers up close is awesome.

P.S. Like some have suggested before, the Sentinel (using Assault Armor) is also a good class to go CQC (relatively safe). Assault Armor makes Shep insanely hard to kill (on Insanity) allowing you to walk around and beat the lot to death :)
