A vocal minority is overreacting based on one image.

Personally I hope every one on the squad has some heavy gear for hostile enviroments (i.e., the vacuum) and some lighter gear for use in settled areas. And I dig that Ashley finally let her hair down. The bun makes sense when on duty, but looks a little silly when she's sitting up in Shepard's bunk after they shagged.

But applying makeup isn't something that I didn't see Ash not doing. I saw her as a gal who does dress up when she is going out on the town with her sisters ... She just wouldn't do it in front of her military buddies due to the ribbing. She wants to be thought of as a soldier first. If she is a Spectre now, I think that we would see some changes both on the outside & inside. But it is really too soon to know what those changes will be in the game.

Maybe after E3 we will have a better idea.

Dude, how would becoming a Spectre make her more girly and less practical?  If anything, she would become MORE practical, LESS playful, and a LOT harsher/world-weary.  Unless they only gave her the position for the sake of needing a new Alliance poster child, in which case she'd HATE it and only dress up to keep the press off her back.

However, if you didn't get your Spectre status re-instated, prepare for something like this:

Ash: So...  I'm a Spectre.  And you're not.
Shep: Yes...?
Ash: Hmmm.  Interesting little role reversal.  Looks like I'm in charge of you, skipper.
Shep: o_o;

That one pic in GI is all we've seen of Ashley right? I really can't judge her redesign on one pic. Maybe in a few months I'll have a better answer than that.

As for whether I would like if she dressed like that throughout the entire game: I don't know. I don't think it would be some sort of a betrayal to her character if that were the case. It would be a little odd, but it wouldn't be a betrayal.

I think in ME3 I could suspend belief that Ashley (a soldier) would wear something so skimpy into battle, I wouldn't like it, but I'd be able to stand it.

And lets face it, the skimpy cat-suits aren't pandering to guys like me. They are pandering to a certain individual that I won't bother to describe. If I want to see something like that I'll just regretfully admit to my wife that I WAS crying during the TV-Movie "Brian's Song". It works just enough that I haven't given it up.

I don't consider make-up and hair down "girly" ... Grown up women do that stuff better.

What I meant is if Ashley is now a spectre she has proven not only her worth to the Alliance but also to the council. Given the "Grandpa Williams" shadow, this would mean a lot to Ash and as a result she would also be proud of herself .... Some individuals when they feel better about themselves start to dress up and take more time on their personal appearance (new hairdo, clothes, makeup, weight loss, jewelry ... oh, a friend says SHOES). 

Now my Shepard loves Ash any way he can get her ... As long as her lips and legs don't change the boy is happy!

Oh, and after reading your dialogue, my Shep now hates taking back his Spectre status.
