Is it really fair to attack the GI preview of Ashley as being dramatically oversexualized?

yeah, we all know how that went...

2: uh....a fantasy game cannot have verosimile armor/armor needs? Really? A mage without armor is understandable...he/she can turn his/her skin into the biological equivalent of stone (ala Thing or Colossus)...but a pirate (on land, no "ZOMG I'm gonna drown" excuse) who is a primarily melee fighter against fully armored opponents? What? she is SO awesome that nothing will ever touch her so the armor is not needed? GTFO

See thats the source of the complaint...because Ashley would NEVER dress like this and is clearly just blatent fan-service.

1. Some cameos are back, because it would be nearly impossible to have every character we've seen so far playing a major part.
2. It worked for the jacobites, it worked for the zulu, it worked for real life pirates whom Isabela is based on (and they'd drown anyway because of their clothing becoming waterlogged), it worked for ninjas, it worked for the barbarian clans the romans fought... there is a lot of precedence for sacrificing protection for agility in history. On the flip side, you may as well complain about Aveline wearing heavy armour - that's not going to stand up to a full on blow from a claymore, it's there to minimise damage from smaller weapons and glancing blows, and is not practical in a basic melee. The only people who'd where things that heavy were horsemen, who wouldn't be stuck into the fighting.

Plus, I'm 99% sure Ashley will make an appearance in one of the in-game trailers after three weeks at E3. We should probably hold it until then.

The cup size isn't what's bothering people. What's bothering them is that Kaiden is a Biotic and is wearing Full-Armor. Ashley is a Soldier, not a biotic at all, and she's wearing a combination Catsuit-Speedo.
So, why does the Biotic have armor while the Soldier is wearing less protective gear? It's a fair question.

I think the characterization of Ashley's clothing as a "catsuit-seedo" is a little harsh.

Go look at it, it's Miranda's suit. It will probably be fully revealed with heels when we finally get some footage of Ash in combat.
But regardless of that , it still doesn't explain why the Biotic is wearing more armor than the Soldier.

So I asked him this
@CaseyDHudson Hi, will squadmates wear armor with helmets or are high heels, breather masks and space boobs making return?
And his answer
@BablAqUA All of the above, but with a focus on some pretty badass new armor and helmets.
I dont know...from this answer I wouldnt be surprised if we´ll see Ashley fighting in space with this look and breather mask.

Her personal ability tree was based on dodging enemy attacks, as such, arrmor would not be high on her list mobility would.

Considering every woman in ME1 had the same cup size, I still consider diversifying it a bit as an up side.
Size isn't everything. Camera angles, mannerisms, overdoing the cleavage, etc. That's what the real issue is with sex appeal going overboard. ME1's Ashley wasn't guilty of that, but ME1's Ashley also happened to be like every other character on the Normandy: when you talked to them, they stood still and just stuck to stock animations and face shots. The only one with a decent unique mannerism was Kaiden, and that was one animation at the start of his talks. In ME2, people roam around, sit down, etc. Much more dynamic. We'll see where Ash fits in whilst not in "I hate Cerberus" mode when ME3 comes out, but a form-fitting jumpsuit doth not equal Miranda. I honestly can't picture Ash making the sort of unconscious "sexy" poses Miranda assumes on a regular basis (and because it's Miranda, I can easily imagine those being unconscious habit), and that's my chief concern. A little added buoyancy and an armor reduction isn't enough to jump to that level of alert, not quite yet.

1: you do not know how many cameos nor how long or meaningful they are so you can't really use that as an argument
2: a lot of your comparisons are flawed. The ninjas were assassins, pit then in a 1 on 1 direct fight with skilled armored targets and they are screwed (there is even an episode about that on deadliest warrior). Barbarians were usually squashed by the roman empire, the Hunns fared better but they were the exception not the rule. The gauls, goths and visigoths were slaughtered....going into battle naked was not a good idea. Pirates had gunpowder weapons, I am not sure how much influence that had on them not wearing armor but Isabela is routinely hit by weapons and arrows I'd say armor is needed, as for Aveline yes maybe a claymore blow would have gone through her armor but at least she is safer from small slashing weapons, some arrows and glancing blows. For someone who is constantly fighting hand to hand that is somethinng

It's already done, and don't look for it to be changed back either.
Seriously though, I really would love to have a conversation with Bioware's conceptual artists and ask them what justifications they had for coming up with this look for a Soldier.
