Is it really fair to attack the GI preview of Ashley as being dramatically oversexualized?

I find her black suit attractive, not her ugly white one, but I find Miri more sexy in her armour.

Same here, but I think the reason the white one looks so gross is because of the way the shadows get all funky.

Haven't seen her armor. If it shows less of her ass and boobs I have to say it is by definition less sexy.

Shadows? I was busy looking at her ass.

Although I did notice weird shadows messing up her face alot of the time...

This is Jacob's new ME3 armor.

If she ended up with less armour than Liara and Kaidan, that would be silly.

Here's another thing about the "Miranda 2.0" thing, appearance =/= personality. I believe Casey has said that the original artist are the ones doing the new updated looks for characters in ME 3. So if anything it's not Ash's look that should worry people cause the artist is the same, but her personality under a new writer.

Appearance =/= personallty. Good point.

But appearance clearly DOES mirror personality.

You're not going to see a Goth dressed in warm collors.
You're not going to see some happy go lucky person dressed in head to toe black.
You're not going to see sexy Miranda get a friggin crew cut, or put here hair up in an Ash bun.

And you're not going to see Ashley trying to wear makeup on a warship in the middle of a mission except under some very weird circumstances. Which again, I doubt exist. And you're certainly not going to see her wearing a skin tight body suit into combat, because as was quoted before she specifically explicitly stated she would never wear that in a fight. So it BETTER be her casual wear, and there BETTER be some REASON why her personality would change to the point that she's wearing that makeup in the middle of the end of the world.

Although, there shouldn't be ANYONE who would wear anything less than full combat armor into combat.

The more i see of the new Ashley pic, the thing that really strikes me is how bad her eyes look in it. Is this supposed to be a sexy come to bed eyes look because it seems more i'm about to fall asleep look.

anyone ever consider that this is her casual outfit? Saren, Shepard, Nihlus, and Vasir had Armor. She has Armor on Horizon (and she's probbaly already a Spectre there we need the game to find out when Ashley and Kaidan Get promoted) and since she's fought on the front lines for the majority of her caree, she'll always have armor. I doubt you'd get her in combat in a jumpsuit unless someone boarded a ship she was on and didn't have time to put on her heavy armor.

Possible, but ME2 didn't have "casual outfits" just people who dressed casually for battle.  I have seen zero indication that ME3 will do things any differently (just a lot of wishful thinking)

This is one question I hope gets answered, either here or on Twitter.

I really don't see the problem with makeup that you seem to have, FemShepard can wear make up, Liara wears makeup, Jack wears makeup, Miranda wears makeup. I can understand people's complaint about her outfit even if I don't personally have a problem with it and it also wouldn't bother me if Bioware decided to change it before release to something heavier like Miranda's dlc armor for example. If Ashley is softened a little by wearing makeup and letting her hair down whats the issue.

Well it's been encouraged all along. Why do you think Shepard is so dashing, and a special forces super dude, and the first human Spectere?.

Image IPB

Dashing.

Seriously, the reason Shepard is a big goddamn hero is because that's what it takes to save the galaxy.  There are plenty of other stories out there where Average Joe saves the day, but Average Joe lacks the charisma to gather together a team of badasses.

Congratulations you found the worst image of Shepard in the entire games haha! You should be a paparazzi. Seriously, if it wasn't about the looks Shepard would look like Ugly Shepard from that one thread.

Charisma isn't an inherent trait of the elite warfighter, in fact it's pretty rare among elite warfighters. As is pretty.

And as for the, "That's what it takes" line: Yeah, that's what you would think about capturing Saddam Hussein too...

I read up to page 3 but thought id say something now before i finish reading the thread. As of that far into the thread, I do agree most of my liking her npw is because of the change. I would rather have her back to where looks arent making me wanna like her. I always chose Liara over Ashley because i felt Liara had a better personalty over Ashley and she also had the looks over Ashley. I do hope this turns out to just be her casual outfit for ME3 when she is on the Normandy.

Sheploo looks goddamn ugly in game.  His eyes cross all the time and the facial animations make him look like a drunk rapist.  He's averge jarhead at best.

Charisma is a necessary trait in the type of leader Shepard is.  If Shepard couldn't command loyalty and respect, people like Samara and Wrex wouldn't follow him/her.

FemShep Shouldn't wear it either, Jack shouldn't wear it either, Liara shouldn't wear it either. Actually with Liara's new desk job it doesn't matter.

The problem is that it's contradictory to Ashley's character. That's the whole point. No one ever said make up sucks in general.

And even if it weren't contradictory to her character: YOU DON'T WEAR MAKEUP IN COMBAT PERIOD. You just f#$%ing don't. Would you put on makeup for a serious workout? Yeah, and that's massivly less effort than you would exert fighting for your life.

Like I said, I don't freaking care if she wears it in her personall life, or even if she's just wearing it now to get Shepard's attention in a scene or two as part of the plot, or any other of a myriad of potential reasons she might put it on. But if she just is wearing all the time just because, it's both contradictory to her character AND ridiculous from a logical perspective.

I strongly disagree, but I'm the sort of guy who finds sexiness in a lot of things that are completely unrelated to physical appearance.

Thick armor can look sexy if put on a sexy woman.
A woman who can kick my ass (i.e. Ash) is a sexy woman.
Ergo, a woman can kick ass, wear armor and look sexy.

right, but even so Ashley still wore armor in ME2 and since Bioware is adding rpg elements, she'll most likely have two outifts.

Those are animation issues EVERY face will look ugly if you animate it like that. If you look at a still image of Shepard he could've stepped out of a abercrombie and fitch ad. Ok... maybe a little too manly for one of those, but you get my point.

What the hell does that mean, and how is it relevant? My point is Shepard was specifically designed to be appealing, AND HE IS DESIGNED TO BE APPEALING.

The guy who shep is based on is a model so obviously sheps good looking to a lot of people. Animation in games makes people look weird sometimes.

This is all based on your opinion of what character should and shouldn't do, which I don't agree with. I don't see the big deal or issue you have with female characters wearing makeup in a game. I also don't see it as a major conradiction to her personality, even from ME. Cause in ME we saw that she had a softer side, so maybe in ME 3 she is letting it show more now.

Bah indeed.

Boobs and booty are just visual cues to stimulate the sex drive, if they are less visible the sex drive is less stimulated, if the sex drive is less stimulated the image is by definition less effectively sexy.

Granted all the chicks in the pics you posted are obviously hot (for cartoons) and I commend your taste. You can tell they are sexy, and attractive, but they are undiniably less sexy in these images than they would be in identical images where the only difference is they're dressed in, oh, I don't know...

I still think he's ugly.  Then again, I think it was silly of them to hire a Dutch model to be the face.  Really, he's a space marine, not some pseudo-manly pretty boy.  If they wanted the "dashing commander" angle, they should have gone with his actual voice actor:

Maybe in a "heroic poster boy of heroism" sense, but I would DEFINITELY not tap a Shep of either gender.  I like Shep because there's no blatant sex appeal--he/she's just a self-insert for the player with the awesome cranked up to eleven.

(BTW, my point was that charisma and asskickery are typical traits to assign to a hero in Shepard's role.  Basically, Captain Kirk as a space marine.)

Unless I'm just gay, and I have weird taste... uh oh

I'm bisexual and I find angry space chickens sexually attractive.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with you.

No this all based on the precedent of Ashley that ASHLEY herself has already given us. Sure at times, to Shepard, during moments of intimacy, she showed her softer side. She didn't walk around with her softer side on display for the world. She was the opposite of that in fact.

People don't just completely randomly change from tom-boyish to girly over night for no reason. So if her character does change from tom boyish to girly, it damn well better not be overnight, and there damn well better be a reason. Otherwise it IS a contradiction of her character.

And regardless of a person's personallity, unless it's some wier tribal thing, which Ashley doesn't have, you DON'T wear makeup in combat. And who said anything about girls shouldn't wear makeup in video games, or anywhere for that matter besides, in combat, on a ship in the middle of a millitary operation?

True, but if you see boobs everywhere, they lose the appeal.  It'd be like if you ate chocolate cake everyday--the fun would wear off, and suddenly nothing is sexy anymore.

Part of the fun of chicks with armor is getting to imagine the exciting bits yourself while reveling in the asskickery.  Also, it makes the love scenes much more rewarding.  It's like Christmas!
