Does importing this save make the game more enjoyable to play and does it give a lot more benefits?

Shotgun, especially if you have the Locust SMG since it is functionally very similar to an AR. Sentinel's style supports close-range combat and shotguns can deal out the kind of offense that the build otherwise lacks. Also a good idea to choose an ammo power for your bonus (I had AP Ammo, which I evolved to Tungsten).

A quick Assault Sentinel guide:

Import lvl 60 ME1 Shep
Complete prologue and invest every skill point in TA (you will have Assault Armor before the first mission - @ lvl 6)
Buy tech upgrade (Omega or Citadel), Recruit Mordin (to unlock research), help Kasumi (tech upgrade 2), recruit Garrus (tech upgrade 3), research cooldown reduction upgrade.
All new skillpoints should go into passive power (to reduce cooldown)
At this point you should be around level 11 which means you've also maxed passive. Combined with the tech cooldown reduction research means you can activate Assault Armor every 5-6 seconds (meaning you're almost invincible)
Also remember that every time you activate TA will reset squadmate powers. So when you have Jacob and Miranda on the team, you can use them to Pull-Warp bomb and enemy, have Shep activate TA, Warpbomb again for free :)
Recruit Jack and Grunt > unlocks Horizon mission, pick up Zaeed and complete 5 N7 Assignments (like the Firewalker pack, Normandy Crash site etc)
With 6 crew on Normandy and 5 N7 assignment completed will unlock the Collector Ship mission.
Pickup shotgun training and you're done
This leave ~80 % of the game for you to play in near godmode.

Wow I just had a look at this very helpful thank you so much

Also worth noting that if you're getting assault rifle training, you should use the Tempest as it's is practically made for the Assault Sentinel. It's huge clip makes you shoot continuously for 3.5 seconds so you can hit TA without reloading as much. It's like a mini-Revenant. Combine that with squad incendiary for organics / squad disruptor for mechs and you're going to have the time of your life. So basically, either Shotgun + Locust, or AR + Tempest.

So it doesn't matter what I choose both shotgun and assault rifle are good?

You'll kill faster with shotguns because you'll be literally in everyone's face and TA will knock everyone down, and it's more fun. Having both shotgun and Tempest is sort of redundant (although it's not the end of the world), so Locust is the "logical" choice to handle any distance fighting.

Choosing AR is the safer choice, but it's for midrange fighting, TA won't be used to its full effect as much. But if you wanted to CQC and don't have shotgun, the Tempest is the closest option for the Sentinel.

You may not have completed the game(ME2) before, amd Boz may of considered the extra 25% experience per mission for already beating the game(ME2) before.

you get advanced weapon training in a story mission roughly half way through the game, though that really depends on how you play and what side quests you do and when.

personally i'd suggest the assault rifle over the shotgun, since its more versatile and useful in more situations.

while i havent personally played a sentinel yet i actually heard they were the easiest to beat the highest difficulties with due to their raw defensive power with that tech armor so you dont die nearly as often as other classes. my friend said his sentinel insanity run was WAY easier than any other insanity run he's done, and he's played most of the classes.

As a sentinel, My general strategy is Sniper from a distance, and as they get closer, either my tech or biotic abilities finish them off. Submachine gun and heavy pistol is rarely used. Heavy Warp, Area Throw, Power Armor, and Raider makes my Shepard ruin the day of anyone who gets in the way.

I'd go with assault rifle for the extra gun. It's invaluable... But the shotgun works well also if you like to rush.

And I tend to go with Garrus/Miranda or Garrus/Tali or Miranda/Morinth. Just depends on who I'm facing...

-And I'm about to finish my first playthrough (ever) on Hardcore with my sentinel, and I haven't had much trouble at all.

Since the Locust exceeds most Assault Rifles damage wise I would consider Assault Rifle advanced training only if I want to use the Mattock.
After all it depends on your play style, if you want to stay at range you probably want to take the Assault Rifle or even the Sniper Rifle training.
If you want to fight at close range go with the shotgun training.

as a sentinel. my favs are the Locust submachine gun, the viper rifle , carnifex pistol ... or phalanx depending on missions . For heavy weapon it really depends on the missions but i use the grenade launcher or firestorm a lot when dealing with mercs . With the collectors, i use the particle beam and sometimes the Cain ( but you need a lot of ammo to use it ) . Grenade launcher is good when you know you'll be dealing with YMIRs .
apart from that i set my powers at : level 4 assault armor, level 4 guardian defender , level 4 tungsten ammo as bonus power, level 4 heavy warp, level 3 throw ( very useful when enemies are down to health ) , level 2 overload ... and yeah, i'm stuck with that retarded 1 point left which i set to cryo .

i find i use the Locust with tungsten a lot , because i get in close range pretty often.

--

and i don't know where the heck the others have found their shotguns . I don't have any !
i love the mattock but as i went from hardcore to insanity, i somehow lost the ability to use it. :(

I was toying around with getting the Assault Rifle, but the Locust SMG pretty much makes that obsolete so I think I'm gonna stick with the shotgun. As a side note i just loved it when there is a whole bunch of husks around me. I just let them hit me until my tech armor goes and the pulse fires. Instant kill for husks. Again love it.
