Starting Baldur's Gate up again. I'm playing it with a heavily modded setup, including BGT and I plan on making a character to play through the whole trilogy. I just can't decide what character I want to play.

My core group will include:
Viconia - Multiclass Theif/Cleric of Shar
Edwin - Conjurer
Xan - Wild mage OR Sorcerer (Undecided yet. Imput welcome)

I plan on keeping these 3 with me through the whole trilogy, so I want to build my character to fit in with them. I'm considereing taking Korgan in BG2, but I would still like to build my character around my core group. I will take other characters along, but they will only be temporary.

I normally play a mage, or some variation of. I almost always play arcane heavy parties, but my last play through was a Sorcerer and I want something different. Viconia's kit means she cannot wear anything better then studded leather, so she will be my primary melee damage dealer and divine caster. I plan on her duel wielding swords (One of the mods I have allows her to use both items a thief and cleric can use).Edwin and Xan are going to be flinging spells like no tomorow, and will be my ranged/spell damage dealers. It seems the gap is a melee "tank." Probobly someone using flails and hammers. I just don't know how much ill like a fighter, with all my other play throughs they have been click and forget. I've played BG quite a few times, and even though I'm still learning new stuff every play through, I do have experiance. So obscure and tougher to play classes are no problem. I like a challenge!

Fighter/Thief
Fighter/cleric
Monk (fragile at the beginning)
Blade or Jester
Assassin
Anti-Paldin? (weimer mod)

For tank you can take Kagain in BG1 and Korgan in BG2

F/T was my original thought (Fight/Assassin actually). But with Viconia being a multiclassed thief I didn't figure I would need another. F/C is probobly my 2nd most played class, and is always a favorite. He would also beable to use flails and hammers, something this party is lacking (I love the flail of ages). I was seriously considering a bard. And never really ruled them out, I just figured I needed a tank. With Kagain/Korgan that wouldn't be a problem.

The Anti-Paladin and monk I havn't considered before. The Anti-paladin looks interesting, and might fit with the party fairly well. Ive never played a monk, so I have no idea what to expect from that. Could be interesting.

Ugh, decisions. Making a character you want to stick with for such a long time is the hardest part of the game!

Maybe F/M/T? Once you unlock Mislead, you can pop improved haste, then murder things with up to 10 backstabs per round, x5 damage each. Mislead is extremely cheesy: if you left the image behind, you will not be detectable, and even if the invisibility is purged from you, it will be re-applied after a fraction of second, as long as the image exists somewhere on the map. This paired with a strong backstab weapon (staff of striking, then staff of ram) can give you a solid 1000+ damage per round character that also can lay/disarm traps (spike trap woohoo), open locks, cast some spells, fight well and use any item.

Cons: no 9th level spells, albeit I see absolutely no reason to cast them instead of backstabbing and doing 500-1500 damage per round. Also extremely slow development, but if you're playing BGT, you're likely to get to higher levels and thus unlock his potential faster. He gets 'truly' online when he gets 6th level spells (iirc it's 2,8 million exp) but he isn't a useless exp leecher before that contrary to dual classed dudes.

For ultimate fun, get True grandmastery and Grandmastery for Multiclasses options from fixpack. Then you can have 8 attacks per round on improved haste, so you can cast critical strike instead of GWW and do around 300 damage per backstab with staff of ram eight times per round... which is a total of 2400 damage/round. And to think people say Kensai/mage is strong, lol.

With a F/M/T I would be recovering two bases I already have covered. I also do not necessarily want a class with the ability to be crazy cheesy OP. I do want to play in a party setting, what you suggested sounds like a great solo class, but with a party the party would just be in the way.

How about Wild Mage then? Chaos shields from spell sequencer stack. This means you have - at max level - 80% of success with Reckless Dweomer, which is solid enough. After 2-3 casts of dweomer (which is every spell you want it to be), you can cast limited wish and restore your spells (contrary to wish it always offers the same options so no gamble here). So it's not just unlimited spells, but also, all spells you might want.

(Yup, another cheesy class, but more party-friendly. I don't get why people prefer sorcerer over this. I did myself, until I tried Wildmage :P Sorc is nothing in comparison).

For truly unique and funny playthrough, without any cheese, I'd suggest the Jester.

or maybe:
Monk (no micromanage required)
Blade (combines a bit of everything and not very cheesy)
Inquisitor (instant bye-bye to illusions and superstrong dispel)

I was planning on making Xan into a Wild Mage (or Sorcerer). With Xan and Edwin in my party, im not sure another mage is really needed. Most of my play throughs have been with a mage (My last run was with a Sorcerer and Edwin. My sorcerer had more then 20 spells per day per level, and edwin had the max amount that showed un in his spellbook. Good times).

Both the Monk and the bards seem like they might be fun choices. They would be a lot of fun to RP. Definitly considering those two heavily.

With most of my party being composed of evil NPCs, an Inquisitor just wouldn't fit. For the paladin root an Anti-Paladin seems like a much better choice RP wise.

Some good suggestions Czacki, even if I do keep shooting most of them down. Posted Image Thanks.

No prob:) Personally I'd try Jester, he's so much fun (also got undocumented buffs in patches so he doesn't really suck as much as he did later in game) or Monk (the TRUE "you point I punch" dude, since you have lots of spells to manage getting one easy member to control should be a blessing:))

good luck, too:)

I was about to say "you need a a fighter type" and "too bad no one ever came up with an anti-Paladin" which we used to play all the time in P&P D&D.

Then I saw Incantatars post.

I'd go Ant-Paladin al lthe way. Now, that's one EVIL dude who's able to keep his 'little demon and devil' NPCs in line.

Ive decided to go Anti-Paladin. And I'm dropping Edwin in BG2 for Valen, its going to be an interesting play through. Can't wait. Thank you all for the help! Been trying to decide for days now.
