I want to edit Alistair's dialog.

Ive been looking around and found alistair_main.dlg and alistair_origins.dlg that i can open in the toolset (the files are in E:\\\\Dragon Age\\\\modules\\\\single player\\\\data\\\\designerdialogs.erf  )

When I open them, I see no text and lots of code instead of normal dialogs.

Why does it look different from newly created dialogs?
How can I see the text in that dlg?
How can I append to it or edit it?

Also, if I enter one of the string numbers from the dlg in the string editor, I get no returns (yes, I'm selecting the single player talk table).

...thanks.

I know this is a bit of an old topic, but I figured I should add to it rather than start a new one on essentially the same subject. I don't see the .dlg files the OP is referring to in the designerdialogs.erf, unless the files are being extracted from a .gda file (in which case, what tool is used to extract DA .gda's?). From what I've seen around the forums, it looks like some modders are accessing OC companion dialogues; would anyone be willing to share how they're doing so? I'm interested in correcting some typos and tweaking some player choices that don't quite make sense in the context of the dialogue. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or links to write-ups I missed.

Yeah, the answer is that we have to wait for a new toolset release, basically. :-)

Ah, I see; so the dialogue you're adding in the flirt pack in your sig, and some of the other projects I've seen that are adding dialogue, are not actually editing the original dialogue? I'd mistakenly assumed it was being done in a method similar to NWN2. I'd like to know how the dialogue is being added to the NPC, but I imagine it's a bit much to explain - I'll just wait and look at released mods to figure out how it was done. ;)

In the December the 4th dev update on progress on the toolset patch, it's mentioned that the single player database will be included. The patch will probably be released sometime next week. So, that's a bit of good news. :)

What I'm doing now is just writing.

I was actually coding Ser Gilmore NPC for a while but I had to stop because the mod kept breaking my savegames. :-/

So yeah, I'm eagerly waiting to see the new toolset release (whenever that may be, I rather wait longer and have a stable release than not) to finally be able to do something with Alistair :-)

All the strings are in the talktables. The OC dialogues are in designerdialogs.erf. You'd have to do the cross referencing by yourself.
