After playing with the Revenant - Widow Sentinel. I actually prefer the Geth Pulse Rife / Locust.
Revenant just isn't accurate enough, and the Pulse Rifle- Locust both feel more flexible.

The only reason I still have the Widow is for it's zoom.

[Rant]

At least on Hardcore, My main problems are enemies who don't stay behind cover and instead move straight towards me to melee range. Preatorians, Husk, Krogans, Pyros, Scion (I really hate these guys) all give me troubles that the Revenant never seemed to helped me with (Although I haven't tried it on hardcore with the accuracy upgrades yet).

The widow helps from time to time against enemies with rocket lauchers and Scion. Nothing that I think is super game breaking.

If this was a multi-player game, then I would be more susceptible to OP arguments, but since this is a single player, they should just have given everyone access to every weapon.

Perhaps let players on hardcore or higher difficulties increased customization? I've only used the widow maybe 5-10 times. Even better, access to every weapon but, you can only carry like 3 or 4 (even if they are the same type).

Cyro blast isn't worth putting points in. Warp and Overload seem to be the best "spells". Cryo blast and Throw are hampred by the "ineffective on protections" clause. Esentially you have to bring the enemy to 1/3 to 1/2 health before you can use them then, you have to set them up for "maybe" a one shot kill.

That sucks when you have a bunch of krogans breathing down your kneck, or some enemy advancing on your position with shields and armor and health. You only have a few moments to strip him of his protections and kill him be for you are out flanked and killed.

You can use Throw against those charging enemies you hate. Shoot through defenses, Throw. Either they're dead or on the ground. While they're on the ground, they take extra damage. Unlike Overload and Warp, it also has an incredibly low cooldown, meaning you can still quickly use Tech Armor if needed.

So basically I think Throw is a good power for Sentinels.

As for the Widow, it's good because it can one-shot on any difficulty, at least against normal enemies if you have the right setup. That means extremely fast killing if you have good aim.

Ok so I can only use sub machine guns and heavy pistols why does this class have to be so dam fun but have horrible weapon choices? Is there a mod or something so I can get a nice gun cause I am a tank I love being able to go out in the open and take a lot of damage but it would be so much nicer to get a fat shotgun or something more sexy.

Locust SMG is practically an assault rifle.

The reason that each class has deficiences is to allow the game to cater for players with a wide variety of game play preferences and combat skills. Now I was tempted to play the sentinel for my first ever playthrough but in the end opted for the vanguard instead because I wanted the benefit of better weaponry instead of the tech powers whilst still having some biotics. I'm glad I did because when I played the arrival DLC, I set off after escaping the med bay and for some reason that escapes me forgot to select an ammo power. A few minutes later I was getting annoyed at the feeble firepower before realising what was happening! I selected inferno ammo for the Locust and I was back to what I'd been missing. I think that the difference the ammo powers make to any weapon is amazing, even level 1 cryo.

What would have been nice in ME2 is a 7th, custom class where all of the weapons, tech abilities and biotic powers are available. Each skill would have a points value and you could build your character with any combination of skills upto a certain amount of points. That could have been pretty cool.

Yes, this is why I always play the Firewalker missions after Horizon.

Tempest is my favorite with Sentinel.

I recall first getting the tempest SMG on Tali's recruitment/rescue mission and then I just ran through the rest of the mission with my vanguard blasting the dumb ass geth to pieces at close range :o) I dropped the geth prime in the maintenance area so fast with it that I felt like I was in an 80s Arnie movie! :o) But then on the next mission I realised that as powerful and rapid as the tempest is, the accuracy kinda sucks and the target drift is so bad that it's totally useless in anything other than close range combat. Then I downloaded the Kasumi DLC and got the Locust and haven't used any other SMG since as it's so accurate and has a decent ammo count too.

Regardless of shep's class I'd still want to get onboard that collector ship asap and add a better weapon to my arsenal. I chose the viper sniper rifle because for me it balances out the vanguard and gives me some decent options at any range and any situation.

I don't know how you're playing exactly, but if you have squadmates automatically using their powers, you need to turn that off and manually deploy their powers at the right time.  On high levels, you need to concentrate squad powers to stop badguys like krogan cold.  Usually you'll use some kind anti armor attacks to strip off their armor, then use throw or cryo blast or something like that to disable them.  Mordin is an excellent anti-krogan squadmate.

An alternative would be to get Stasis, which will disable an enemy regardless of protections.  Might give that a try.

Scions you can't crowd control since all they have is armor (Stasis might work, never tried).  Honestly, the Viper does very high DPS against scions, especially with incendiary or AP ammo.  So do heavy pistols, interestingly enough.  The Carnifex and the Phalanx are both good weapons against Scions.  Also, avoid CQC against Scions at all costs.  It doesn't work that well.

The Revenant is a weapon that seems meh at first when you initially use it.  It kind of grows on you with time, however.

The Widow is a very powerful weapon but, IMO, doesn't reach its full potential unless used by a Soldier.  With Heightened Adrenaline Rush and the appropriate ammo power, it becomes a shockingly devastating firearm.

It also is very powerful against scions.  Besides, when I play Vanguard, I tend to prefer the Eviscerator to the Claymore, since I get 3 shots instead of 1.

I think the biggest issue with the Revenant is that it's suited for very close range fighting, preferably under ARush, which isn't really the point behind having an assault rifle. Ideally you need to be in Shotgun range to reach the Revenant's potential, but since the only class that can carry it also carries a shotgun from the start, it tends to feel like a bit of a style choice rather than something you'd turn to for specific purpose. The game also doesn't really revolve around tearing apart enemies with a long stream of fire, as its cover-based, so guns with enormous clips etc don't really find much use compared to stuff that focuses on short, controlled bursts of shots.

To be honest, this was why I went back to using the Vindicator (i don't touch the Mattock, if I wanted to break the game I'd switch God Mode on). Aside from the fact that I think the Vindicator looks way better (in fact very similar to the Spectre AR from ME1) you can reliably use it in any fight, at virtually any range, without having to dick around trying to close the gap between me and enemies.

The widow helps from time to time against enemies with rocket lauchers and Scion. Nothing that I think is super game breaking.

I definitely think the Widow's massive damage per shot is balanced by it's bolt-action refire setup. Personally I prefer the Viper, though. On virtually every class. It's a lot more flexible than the other sniper rifles.

If this was a multi-player game, then I would be more susceptible to OP arguments, but since this is a single player, they should just have given everyone access to every weapon.

I'd wager that's why they're doing this in ME3. It made sense to restrict weapon classes to certain character classes in ME1, but since there's so much overlap between different weapons in ME2, it's a bit silly to restrict the weapon types. I mean, why on earth was the soldier, of all classes, the only one that wasn't given SMGs?
