Why do you think Hawk left.

My warden needed a friend to disappear with. Honestly, I refrain from thinking since I'll come up with something fantastic, write it out, and then bioware will come out with an expansion pack or something. Maybe Flemeth is doing something.

My Hawke went sailing with Isabela on the Siren's Call II. Which had been his plan all along.

He then lost her on account of not being a competent kidnapper.Image IPB

I was tipped off by my good friend Varric that the Seekers were coming for me. He told me to flee and that he would delay pursuit by planting false rumours and stories about me. Knowing that I would be blamed for the whole mess I left on a ship with Isabela. However this was just a clever ruse, soon after we set sail I was put off in a dingy in the dead of night and made my way back to the free marches where I rendezvoused with Merrill. We traveled north by the dead of night through forests and at one point via a short detour through the deep roads. We headed towards Antiva and on our way to Rivain. There we were going to meet up with Isabela and formulate our plan to venture to Par Vollen, knowing that while the free marches were in a templar/mage conflict the Quanari would invade.

Our job is clear.....to stop the Qunari by any means possible.

Because Bioware has decided that each game should have a new protagonist a la Elder Scrolls, and the writers can't seem to think of any better method of wiping the slate clean than the riding into the sunset cliche. I keep hoping that they'll surprise us and the Warden (and Hawke, I guess, but he wasn't that interesting of a character) get a proper end, but that probably won't happen.

I hope that DA3 doesn't end the same way that the first two did.

If the story was never intended to go on, I would prefer to have a memorable death. Personally.

Hopefully, the death of Hawke marks them not using the dialouge wheel anymore in future installments. And the voiced PC, since it apparently limits you to one race(I only played human twice in Origins, and Elf five times).

Exactly. I would have been perfectly fine with the Warden dying in order to kill the Archdemon at the Battle of Denerim if it weren't for Morrigan's offer, Awakening, and Witch Hunt. The revelation that a Warden must die in order to kill the Archdemon was a great plot twist, and to have the Warden be forced to make that sacrifice would have been a bittersweet ending. With Morrigan's mysterious plan for the OGB, her use of the Eluvian in Witch Hunt, the ambiguity surrounding the true nature of Flemeth and her plans, and the whole issue of sentient darkspawn in Awakening, the story really feels like it needs the Warden around to resolve it.

With Hawke, he spent most of the game as an errand boy and had no part in the climax of the story. Anders was more of a protagonist than Hawke. Still, having Hawke disappear into the night is frustrating. If Hawke sided with the mages, he should have become a leader of the mage rebellion. If Hawke sided with the templars, he should have become a leader of the vigilante templar group that left the Chantry in order to suppress the mage rebellion. If Hawke tried to remain neutral throughout Act 3 by attempting to convince everyone to take it down a notch and solve things peacefully, he should have died in the ensuing violence--a tragic casualty caught in the crossfire between two opposing forces.

aside from the fact that my Hawke became an outlaw at the end of the game, I'd say he just got fed up with getting drawn into the mage conflict and left with Merrill to settle in some remote Fereldan village and wait out the war.

Maybe Hawke was so sick and tired of mages and templars he/she joined the Qunari.

"Sc*** you guys...I'm going home."  Smelling of wet dog or not, Ferelden sounds more inviting than Kirkwall.

Siding With mages: Being hunted
Siding With Templars: Too much pressure as vicount?

To add to the off topic discussion: Hawke and LI went on the run, not siding with anyone, just RUN!

Indeed.  My Hawke finally found that magic "Get out of Kirkwall" card . . . .

I doubt the writers are going to permit Hawke to be proactive after an entire game where he simply reacted to the events around him, but I would like to think that, after having escaped the Gallows and the templars, he's going to take responsibility for what unfolded and try to lead the mages now that the world is on the brink of war.

Still thinking Hawke went off into the Unknown Regions, to help the Warden track down Flemeth, the Sith Emperor.

I do hope for some post Act 3 DLC though.

Because he's a terrorist. And also a pirate, since Varric's little Isandersbela slip is canon for me.

Mine found it too.

Ugh. Kirkwall was a cesspit, all the money in the world wasn't enoug reason for my Hawke to stay there.

Because he / she is embarrassed by how much of a failure he / she turned out to be, I'd hope. Self-realization is a good thing.
