Considering the Templar stance, and the fact that Jowan (as a Maleficar) is under a death sentence pronounced by the Commander himself at the tower...

I wonder what must go through peoples mind to see someone that can poison the most powerful Arl in Fereldan as a "bumbling oaf".

There's no indication that the Emmon is the most powerful Arl. We're told he's well respected in the Landsmeet and that as his forces weren't at Ostigar, his army is at full strength. (The question of where they were while Redcliffe was swarmed by undead is left in the air.)

As far as we know, any bumbling oaf could have poisoned the Arl. We don't know what security is like at the castle. We don't know how frequent attempts on the Arl's life are. We don't know how much attention is put into things like preventing poisoning as opposed to holding off an attack.

In fact, all the spies and assassins we meet in the game come from outside Ferelden.

They were all out searching for the urn, apparently. TeaGAHN must have thought it more prudent.

His name is more like TeaGAAAAAAAHN. I suspect he was named while his mother was still pushing him out.

I've played the mage origin, and in the end I felt way more sorry for Lily (the girlfriend) than I did for Jowan, although I did not regret trying to help him and Lily escape.

Eamon appears, along with the leaders of your allies, to battle the Archdemon in the final confrontation.
I'd consider an old man able to hold his own against an Archdemon to be a pretty good indicator of how powerful he is.

Just out of curiosity, what's all this "TeaGAHN" stuff?  I've seen a few people write the name like that...

It's mocking Isolde as she wails to him by the Windmill. It's just how she says his name.:wizard:

Idon't get why people like Jowan. Even after doing the Mage origin, I just end up wanting to kill him while he is in the cell. It just seems simpler and less dangerous that way

Well, you can decide to spare someone without necessarily *liking* them. Image IPB  My PC spared the blood mage in the Circle tower mostly because she just prefers not to kill people.

It's not pointless. You CAN save Jowan.

How? Unless you let him go free when you first release him.

Again, that was more Isolde's doing, since she invited him into the castle to be her son's instructor, and no doubt made it easy for him to poison her husband in the process, as per Loghain's plan.

I wouldn't be suprised if Loghain sent her a letter saying Jowan would need a few pounds of deathroot and some concentrating agent in order to properly educate her son.

I used Jowan to save Conner, that seemed to have some weight with TeaGHAN and more importantly - with Conner.
I haven't returned with the Ern yet to see what becomes of him.

p.s. Isolde reminded me of a certain SNL skit, "Oh Tomaaas"

I Hate both of them (isode and jowan). Jowan because he's a pathetic excuse of a mage (my mage origin POV) and always does the worst thing possible. I hate Isode because she's an all around pompous ****** who thinks her son is worth 1000's of others lives. She is the one person in DA:O (except Loghain) that I actually loathe, i didn't know you could off her so i'm ganna half to pay a visit to redcliff with a new char. >: )

I still think the Biggest Douche Award should go to Howe.

The circle won't kill him. They'll probably send him to the mages prison (forgot the name) where he won't be able to practice magic anymore. They only wanted to make him tranquil BEFORE they found out he's a full blown blood mage.

I set him free from the dungeon and he later reappeared with his offer. I turned it down and got the circle instead. When the Arl asked what to do with Jowan, I said that he was sincere in his desire to reform and should be sent back to the Circle. Everyone agreed. Jowan made a nice speech thanking me and the Arl for their mercy and departed.

Can't see the circle doing anything better than Tranquiling him.

If you send him into the fade it's quite clear that he wants to do the right thing. Have him talk to the Desire demon.

If you've done the mage's origin you know that what drive him to do what he wanted was fear of the Templars and being tranquiled. The Templars cause more problems than they solve, because some mages will try anything, do anything, to get out from under their thumb. (Not to mention that the Templars are wimps. The way they abandoned the tower made my mage completely contemptuous of Greagoir. "Big and tough when you're chopping down one apprentice, eh? But a wimp in a real fight. Fine, let me fix this for you.")

As for Isolde, she's a complete waste of space.  I only don't kill her because Alistair freaks out if you do.

Yep, pretty much exactly how I felt. I didn't regret helping them at all - did regret what happened to Lily though.

If Jowan wants redemption, he needs to accept his punishment which is more than deserved, be it death, Tranquility or imprisonment. Everything he did, every law he broke, every crime he committed, has zero excuse. He should've known the consequences, if he isn't totally brainless. Good riddance.

But yes, it's too bad Isolde can't be dragged to the chopping block too. I honestly haven't hated a fictional character as much as I hate her in a long, long time. Jowan is just a pathetic spineless boy who isn't worth more than vague annoyance. Isolde? What a freaking b*tch.

Don't get this whole "poor Lily" thing. She was a nun basically that snuck around behind the chantry's back to have it off with Jowan in back rooms and closets. Jowan was just an idiot, she was a traitor to vows she WILLINGLY took. That's a big no no in my eyes.

Anyhoo, I've been wondering how you got Jowan freed, I wanted that too.. do you remember the choices you picked?
