Is she useful so far I am using Miranda and Garus but I like Tali but I wonder how she will handle on insanity mode.

That is a very old debate. I don't think I've seen a good answer yet. I like Attack Drone the most. But it doesn't matter since the purpose of the drone is to distract, and the damage it does is just a small bonus.

Tali is pretty frail, but the drone and her shield drain ability are great fun. I suggest equipping her with the geth plasma shotgun if you have it and letting her run free.

Tali, like every other shotgun-wieleder not named "Grunt," is a liability without Geth Plasma Shotgun. Without that, they have to get up-close to be effective and tend to stupidly run into enemy fire. Because of that, they often times wind up dead as soon as the fighting begins. Grunt is the only one who is built to withstand the punishment of that playing style (high health, armor).

But if you do have Geth Plasma Shotgun, they are all noticeably better in combat. It works well at mid-range, and so those squadmates are much smarter about taking cover than they would usually be. It also pretty much makes their pistols expendable too.

As for which drone is better, I go with Attack Drone pretty easily. I did an experiment to see how damaging the Explosive Drone's explosion actually is (unprotected organic target) and it wasn't very much. Attack Drone can harass a protected target just as effectively as a regular drone on an unprotected one. I've always found it to be much more useful.

ME Tali worked well for me. Most of my runs involved her and Ashley. In ME2 I can't take her with me and expect her to survive. I figure it's because her shields in ME were just that good while in ME2 there's no way to upgrade her shielding past the best Shepard can get...or at least significantly better than what Shepard gets.

Explosive Drone is best on NG+; Attack Drone on regular game.

Tali's a really good squadmate once you have 6/6 Tech upgrades so her Area Drain will nuke shields. Her passive is garbage, but I can sink 3 points into it b/c I only ever get AI Hack 3. Her only downside is that her LM doesn't open up until after the Disabled Collector Ship, meaning you may have already completed most shield-heavy missions by then.

My Tali build is as follows:

Explosive Drone
AI Hack 3
Passive 2
Area Drain

She's always great against Geth, but once I've set her up with this build, she's really good against mercs too.

honestly, i consider tali to be the worst squadmates.
in ME1 just about everyone is better than her. garrus or kaidan can cover any tech abilities you want and be useful in combat.

ME2, she's easily the worst squadmate. the drone doesnt really kill anything, it might distract a guy or two for a couple seconds but thats about it, think of it more as a crowd control distraction rather than a real attack. her weapon selection is horrible, shotguns dont work well on squaddies in general, and neither do heavy pistols.

but dont let her horrible performance stop you from using her. if oyu like her use her.

in my jack romancing playthrough i used jack most of the time even though she's kinda crappy too

I guess you didn't discover her outrageously powerful shields in ME1, did you?

Most of the things I've wanted to say have already been said, but Tali with the GPS and Area Drain is pretty bloody good.  I usually hold off on playing Overlord until I've gone to the Migrant Fleet, just so I can run through with Tali and have wonderful, wonderful Area Drain spams.  You're not fighting geth, you're just recharging your shields.

Pre-loyalty mission she has problems, post loyalty mission she is awesome IMO. Shield drain rocks, AI hacking rocks, she rocks.

If she had the power cool-down passive instead of Legion, she'd be up there with Miranda. Kasumi was supposed to have a quick Overload, but her passive is bugged. Having an ally shield nuke on short cd would be godly.

EDIT: Speaking of which, Legion is just useless, except against Geth and big armored bosses like the Oculus or Thresher Maw.  Against mercs, I'd rather have Garrus, against Collectors and Blood Pack, I'd rather have Thane.

The real problem with Tali and Legion is the cooldown the have on Drone. It pretty much blocks them from using other powers, and Drone really needs a low cooldown on insanity to be any good.

Of course when you are a sentinel, you reset their cooldowns with Tech Armor, making both of them substantially better.

I still don't think they can compete with the best of the squadmates though.

I don´t like drones too much (not even explosive drone which i think is the best), mainly because of the inmense long cooldown. I like having Tali with improved ai hacking and max her passive, so she has the longest ai hacking possible (15 secs instead of 12 secs). The cooldown is only 12secs so it allows a small window for permahacking a powerful mech, i find it very fun in geth missions and with heavy mechs. Her drain shield power is good enough at 3rd rank and she really is not the best overloader anyway (garrus/kasumi are better) so i prefer to focus on what she does better. Also i practically don´t use legion nor play with a shepard with ai hacking, so Tali is my only source to get it.

The more powerful enemies have a duration reduction. 30-40% for the big ones.

The problem is that like Tali, Legion is a fairly specialized character who unfortuantely shows up fairly late in the game.  If you're willing to take Tali and Legion on geth-heavy missions, you're going to find out just how strong that specialization is against the geth.

Yep. Tali and Legion suffer from crippling over-specialization.

But Tali is absolute murder on enemies with shields (like Geth and the Blue Sun)

Love Tali on Geth or Blue Sun missions. She can be tough in the frontline if managed well, meaning I stay on top of the Energry Drain and she is a good closer with the GPS.

If the situation calls for it, Drone a Heavy Big Bad.  The cooldown is a bit of a hit, use it mainly for the extra tough ones.  The familiars just eat the Energy Drain.

yes, for her drone alone on insanity, that thing will distract enemies while you unload on them.

I always thought so.

Mind you, I never played on anything harder then Normal Difficulty.

But the drone can be a useful distraction tactically.

If you spawn it before you commence your attack, the enemies will turn away from you, giving you a few moments when their guns are not pointed at you to bring them a parcel of pain.

And during the Collector base raid, I spawned the drone right where the Husks would climb up before I triggered their arrival.

And during the approach to the Human Reaper, I'd toss the drone out anywhere and it seems the Collectors would go after it if we were untargetable.

So yes, I'd say she's very useful.

I'm uncertain how the Energy Drain works though, there weren't many enemies with shields to drain, making it a useless power (at least to me).

I like Tali once she gets Energy Drain. Too bad two of the three heaviest synthetic missions you won't have it (her recruitment and loyalty).

She's okay. Energy Drain is pretty awesome and the drone is righteous. I've had a harder time making characters work. She's definitely better than Morinth or Legion, for instance.

In my experience, Tali goes from being decidedly underwhelming with most Shepards to downright fantastic with an Assault Sentinel. Every time you reactivate your Tech Armor, your squadmates' powers instantly recharge. Use this to keep Tali's drone around at all times. You can also instantly recharge her cooldowns for a solid double Energy Drain.

she's a tank in Insanity with energy drain when most enemies have a second or even third layer of protection.

Tali is fragile, but after her loyalty mission, she gets very strong against any enemy with shields, ESPECIALLY mechs and Geth.

I always evolve her to Explosive Drone instead of Attack Drone. The Drone is by its nature cheap and disposable. They're used for distraction knowing they're going to be destroyed. I feel like the drone tends to do more damage if it has a bomb strapped to it that goes off when it dies, rather than rely on its fairly average standard attack.

With the geth plasma shotgun and Energy Drain, she's pretty good. Can make up for her lack of armor counter by bringing Garrus or Grunt with me.

And the drone serves as a good distraction.
