Hi, I'm trying to recreate a multicolored phlogistion 'flow' river for an overland map (general look here) and I was wondering what best options I had.

I thought if it was possible to create such a texture for water mapping, it would be the most flexible, but I don't know if that is possible. ?

Otherwise, I thought one or more animated textures peiced together might suffice, but as I am using only Gimp, I don't beleive I have access to the plugin required to make such textures.

The third option would be to texture swap a flat placeable and use scrolling, but I don't know of such a placeable with a non-tiling texture map I could experiment with.

The option of coloring the ground beneath a regular water map is disadvantageous b/c the colors themselves don't move.

Anyone help me out? (

I think it would be neat to put together some similar rainbowed effects for the standard waterfall placeables/vfxs too.)

Just a suggestion on finding a vfx - unless you have already - get the PowerBar plugin - it has a great vfx browser - among many other advantageous tools.

I think you can just texture water, but I haven't any experience with that so I don't know how you'd go about doing it.

Thanks, I had forgotten it had that ability. It's such a pain find existing resources. It would be cool to be able to open up all the resources used by an sef along with it in the editor...

I don't believe so. I can make a new normal texture, but I believe I'm  confined to a single color of water selected in the toolset.

I think perhaps a placeable like a waterfall (flat, with ribbed edges) and/or an animated rippling prism-like billboard would yield the best effect. (Idk, maybe a rainbow palette of blood splatter-type projected, lerping textures might work. Need to take a look..)

The next option would be to create custom texture/color maps for water terrain, then merge those with the area's existing.
