Can the champion be corrupted by it? And why bioware wasted a good character devolpment in the ending by just have the sword blow up in Meredith face, i wished have option to keep the sword or hand over to Sandal for him to cleanse or destroy the sword for good.

Bioware is moving away from that silly concept of choice

Presumably the idol exploits weaknesses in a person's character: it exploited Meredith's fear of mages and Bartrand's greed; the greater the weakness, the faster it corrupts. It would probably take longer to corrupt Hawke and Varric (proven by how they both handled the idol briefly with no ill effects), but from a metagame perspective it would have been to big a pain in the ass to script every possible corruption trigger for Hawke since his/her personality (and thus weaknesses) is influenced by the player.

Diplomatic Hawke might become corrupted by the fear of losing family, aggressive Hawke might become corrupted by hate, sarcastic Hawke might be corrupted by... well, maybe rage when people stop laughing at his/her jokes. Too many variables and alternate dialogues for the direction the franchise is taking.

I would have liked to see Merideth saved, by being made tranquil. If being made tranquil is being cut off from the realms of Dreams and imagination they should be able to do it to anyone with an affinity for magic. Templars use magic ability's which are enhanced with lyrium.
So what if a Tranquil Merideth came into contact with a Sandal rune made from a piece of the sword, or, a piece of the sword itself? Would her eyes start to glowy thing again?
Thing is the story has already been written and the game released. The what if ideas are better left to FanFic.

Although the Lyrium Merideth statue at the end does look like she could get up and zombie walk eventually.

I only really have one thing to say about the lyrium idol, Red Kryptonite, just saying.Posted Image

The Red lyrium is kind of like the ring from Lord of the Rings I suppose...some people get corrupted easily some don't (thats how the ring kind of worked didn't it?)

I reckon even Hawke could eventually got corrupted by it

Also you can tell that Varric was easily going to be corrupted by it when giving the shard of it to him...just the look in his eyes and how obsessed he seems about it, kind of scary.
