Yeah, real choices would involve alternate missions, alternate enemies and other such variations. They clearly have no intent of doing any of that.

To be fair, I don't think they really have the capability for something so grand. The game would be huge if they did that, spread over many, many discs.

Still, a little more effort would be nice. A twist or two would be cool. A lot of people remember the Tenpenny Tower quest in Fallout 3 so well because taking the moral path and forging peace without violence actually backfires on you.

I think the biggest story line is not about the Rachni but the Geth! And there the descision-making is going to be much more complicated than anything else. There are so much different descisions made that its just to hard to try to make predictions how its going to turn out. Especially if you played the overlord DLC.
The overlord descicions coincide with different weakening or strenghtening descicions for cerberus.
Then the descicions made on legions loyaltyquest are very farreaching if you combine them with Tali's loyaltymission. And you'r going to have to make some descicions early in ME3 which will lead to Tali either abbandoning the flottila or just joining you or maybe even joining the admiraltyboard and have a vote in how to react on the gethproblem....
Together with all of that, the non heretic geth are practically the only ones not following the tech path of the reapers, and they have more or less the same "mind". So they are the closest to understanding the reapers intelligence.

So renegade descisions might be the better descisions here.
And appart from that I think the pure renegade sheppard just looks awesome.
With the scars and everything...

I dunno, they could have done a handful of alternate major missions and numerous minor side quests.

Kill the Rachni because they might be a huge threat a deceiving you? WRONG DECISION! Turns out they're good and will help you if you spare them.

On the up-side, if the Reapers huskify other species against you, rachni will not be one of them.
Also, if the queen is indoctrinated again, they'll all turn on you again. Won't happen if you wiped her out.

You have only yourself to blame if you think you made the wrong decision here, because the Queen offered to make peace and you chose not to trust her. Whatever your reasons were, you chose that she'd die even if she may have been telling the truth.

Decide to prioritize stopping Sovereign instead of protecting inept beaurocrats? WRONG DECISION! You can have your cake and eat it too. Saving them has no negative consequences. All those lives lost to save three people? Nobody cares. Nothing but benefits for saving them.

Saving them does have negative consequences. If you refuse their request for Spectre reinstatement then you've gotten on their bad side and they make threats to take action against you if they see fit. You can still get that reinstatement if you let them die (if Anderson is councilor) and you can refuse it without consequence.

As of now, reinstatement hasn't had any value whatsoever. It just changes some dialogue.

So, again you're wrong. It really made no real difference in ME2.

Kill X NPC? Just one less cameo. One less cameo who's probably reformed their evil ways and will help you in the end.

So what?

I know that Helena Blake will "reform" herself in ME2 if you spare her in ME1. Guess what, I kill her in ME1 anyway, with my "paragade" canon. Because that's how I'd handle the situation. Same with Fist, I always kill him because I kill scum like him. I don't care that he gets himself a decent job in ME2.

If you lack the stones to stand behind your decisions because the game doesn't validate it for you, that's your own problem.

Save the Collector base, in hopes of finding out secrets that will help you? TERRIBLE CHOICE! Turns out it's all bad and blows up in your face!

We don't know that yet.

I've always seen that to be a pretty boneheaded thing to do, but I'm sure there will be some tangible benefits to keeping it. Wait and see.

Support Cerberus? They're working for the Reapers now. "lolol FU Renegades"

What is this I don't even...

So, is there any reason to make any Renegade *decisions*? No, not dialogue, but DECISIONS. It seems like every meaningful decisions isn't so much a choice between Paragon and Renegade, but rather choice between Always-Rewarded Faith / Doing the "right" thing with nothing but rewards and no consequences... or being a moron, making a fool of yourself as Renegade, and getting punished.

Is there any reason for my Renegade Shep to not choose Paragon options for big decisions, other than if I wanted to roleplay someone who makes bad decisions?

Sure, there are plenty.

Look kid, I've played a serious renegade career and it's really not all that bad. At this point, most of the major decisions that have been made have not made any difference or had an impact on the story thus far - paragon OR renegade. They were made to have an impact more on ME3 than ME2 anyway. We'll see how they handle it there (I bet the same players will still cry about how it turns out) but as of now, there's practically nothing behind these arguments.

I really doubt that we won't see Rachni husks even if we killed the Queen. Just like how we're fighting Cerberus no matter what, it'll be the same with them.

Cloned Cerberus Rachni ftw.

Well, you'll have less of them then.
