So back when this game was new, I seemed to remember reading that it was possible to finish the second act without killing the Arishok.  There are a bunch of different permutations that encounter can take, based on your respect, Isabella, Fenris, &c.  However, I can't seem to find a record of if killing the old boy is neccessary.  My query is simple: must the Arishok die, or can such a travesty be avoided?

That mudering scum deserves to die.  That said, handing over Isabela without a fight will let horned Charles Manson leave without a fight.

Interesting.  So is there then no way to preserve the Arishok's life and still retain the services of one saucy pirate lady-person?

Sorry, no.  But you can get very similar services at the Rose for a couple of gold.

Would that thus were true, but unfortunately nobody at the Rose seems to provide even a modicum of witty repartee on the level of which Varrec and I require in our travels to stave off the ennui of resolving every citizen in Kirkwall's laundry-list of personal problems.
