Why is almost all of the armor in the game restricted to the champion ?? Is it a bug or is it as designed ?? If it is meant to be that way, would it be possible to mod out that feature ??? It really does not make sense to have robes restricted to a warrior champion.

It was a decision to have all the companions have their own armour that can be upgraded slightly throughout the game. None of the armour pieces can be worn by a companion; only weapons, rings, belts, and amulets can be used by them.

So, no, it's not a bug. Check on Dragon Age Nexus for mods, though.
