The new (and IMO bad) patch won't go into effect if you already got the "justice" quest in your saved game.  Once you got the quest, the patch won't touch it.

  Thanks!  I guess I'll practically have to replay Act 3.  Oh well.  I'm thrilled there is this option.  I understand it, how easy it would be to turn Anders against Justice after all those years together.  A best friend's, a lover's, constant influence is enough to make anyone change.

So it is possible now to get his Rival ending?

This means I might just consider sparing him instead of lopping his head off and replacing him with Bethany to do the healing and support he provides

Awesome. I'll be keeping Bethany as a backup all the same in case that doesnt work out for me since I am doing my Templar run right now and still in the midst of Act 1 while being a severly aggressive and direct femHawke
