Hello Guys. I´ve bought Mass Effect 1 and wanted to install it. But at 4% there comes the message: "Error opening file for writing
C:\\Program Files\\Mass Effect\\saferun.exe

Hope you can help.

How did you buy it, steam, eadm, or hardcopy. If you bought from steam, then I would try to redownload and make sure you are running in administrator and XP compatibility mode. Any other specs on your machine if this doesn't help.

Check to make sure the disk isnt scratched. Also, the DRM has been found to be incompatible with some firmware on dvd drives. Check your drives manufacturer and see if there is a firmware update.
If none of that works, take it back to your reseller for an exchange, or use your cd key to download it from EA's store. You wont have to pay for it again, just get the download manager.
Note, if you have 2 dvd drives, sometimes having another game in the second drive can cause installation errors.

Unfortunately, it turns out thet ME1 isnt listed/supported through EA's download manager. I assumed it would be because ME2 was available.

I would swear that I answered this a couple of days ago. Exactly as Bogsnot says, some DVDs just don't seem to agree with whatever EA is doing with some of their retail disks. You can create two folders on your hard drive, one for each disk, and copy the contents there, then run the install from the copies.Bogsnot1 wrote...

You can borrow a friend's external DVD drive to install from, and you can set up a LAN from one PC to another and use the DVD drive on the second PC as the source to install from (that's what I did, and it worked well). If you did happen to have two DVD drives, it helps a lot if you start with the "plain" one that has no disk-burner capability.

HI!
I have exactly the same problem as Argion. Game can not install.
I get the same error Message as Arginon has.
Installing from HDD does not help. I have narrowed it down to 2 Bad CRCs in one .rar file on
Disk1 (in one DVD-Player, in a other DVD-Player 3 bad CRCs). I could decompress all files
to my HDD execpt for the 2 files whit bad CRC, register my Ser.Nr. whit "Mass Effect
_code.exe" and after few trys run the update to Ver. 1.02. After this i could run the
"MassEffectConfig.exe".
But the Game only crash, every time. Could it be that the missing files (2 files from the Maps
directory) makes the Game crash?
I have Win7 Pro 64bit. Anti-Virus was deactivated. The Game have registered/aktivated itself in the
Internet (I could see the connection in my Firewall).
