Bioware also counts Samara and Morinth as the same character when they refer to ME2's twelve so it might not be very different in this case. Although I am aware that implementing Morinth as an alternative to Samara took up less resources then Ashley and Kaiden. I guess that's why ME3 is one over ME2 and the team are pushing to make all these game mechanics better and more complex.

I still believe we will have a team of maximum 9 members and it might turnout like I said.

True, but then Morinth isn't even an official squadmate and, like you mentioned, much of her dialogue is stolen from Samara. She's more of an easter egg; Kaidan and Ashley are pretty high-profile characters.

It would not be difficult for them to implement it so you meet them at varying intervals for missions that involve stopping the reapers, which slowly builds on the romance, until the final scene before the final battle where they come to visit you on the Normandy.

Then that would be a redundant alternative to them being permanent team members because it would take just as many resources as the characters that are on the Normandy only to leave the fans who preferred those characters to the ones who made the team feel alienated.

That is a possible hypothetical route but because of those reasons I'm pretty sure Bioware didn't go with it.

Sadly, Samara will be one of the first on the cutting room floor. She is not a love interest, had little plot relevance in Mass Effect 2 (even compared to the others) and Liara seems to be the token asari.

I guess she'll show up on Thessia.

On a separate note,

Hey, at best Bioware *listened* to the fans and made Batarians, Turians, Female alien squad members available. At worst it's blatant fan service just to get more moolah.

Either way, moar squaddies!

I don't care if characters I like are full-time squadmates or not. As long as they're in the game, I'm good. I never really saw Mordin as the guy who's running around on the battlefield like some grunt, anyway.

Not true. By leaving them off the Normandy and only allowing them for multiple, but pre-selected, missions they don't have to worry about full-squadmate banter and squad dialogue along with unique locational dialogue.

It cuts down the number of variables needing to be addressed.

I'd rather have three new squad mates, and an ME 2 squad mates, or two new squad mates, one ME 2 squad mate. But a reasonably big portion of Mass Effect's fanbase have been begging for old squad mates (which is a bit silly in my opinion...)

On the other hand though all of Shepard's previous squad mates are some of the elitist soldiers, marines and fighters in the galaxy so I suppose it is realistic that he'd need a lot of there help against the Reapers.

Still wouldn't mind new squad mates though, doesn't anyone actually want to get to know more new characters?

There will probably be three new squadmembers
1. James Vega the new "lead" male
2. "Lead" Female
3. Awesome character everyone will love (Wrex, Mordin)

There is no reason for new "lead" males and females since there won't be any new LIs this time around. For the good reasons I already mentioned I believe Vega will be the only new character. Guessing is not an exact science though.

Hudson debunked that no new LIs. Let me find the tweet.

Here we go

http://twitter.com/#...417310347202560

When asked about no new LIs Casey responds:

"Don't believe everything you read in print (or online for that matter)."

So there'll probably be new LIs. ^_^

So I see the Squaddie list as this:

1. Liara
2. Ashley
3. Kaidan
4. Garrus
5. Tali
6. Female New LI
7. Male New LI (Might be Vega if he's not a redshirt)
8. Anderson (Hey I can dream!) B)

I really don't see more than seven characters personally.

There won't be too many ME2 people in the squad. If there's less than 12 squad members and more new people coming then only one or two from ME2 will be on it at best.

Casey Hudson never said Miranda most likely won't be in ME3.

She is in 3 and now Bioware needs to announce her as a squad mate at E3. Ashley fans got their wish . Now its time for us Miranda fans to get ours from Bioware fan service better not be for the ME 1 fans only

Give me a break. Two completely different situations. Stop complaining. If I were BW I would purposely never tell you that Miranda would be back just because you complain about it all the time.Posted Image

Here is who I think is returning/in game.

Ash/Kaiden
Garrus
Liara
Tali
Miranda
James "Col Sanders" Vega
Jack
Thane

That is 4 LI's for each gender. Important roles for all past LI's but not permanent squaddies. Hopefully you can bring 3 members on temporary squaddie missions.

@Jexx21 Love interests won't all necessarily be permanent squad members in #ME3 . Interesting new things happening in that area.

That's a tweet from Casey Hudson/

And what if Tali and Garrus died? are there replacements for those people? or is a living Tali and Garrus default if you don't import a save?

Just asking questions. but we may have more "new" squad members to factor in.

Why should you get a replacement if those two characters died? Character deaths should carry consequences.

Also, there is a comic or something that allows you make your own default.

On the note of squadmates, I believe that 9 including both VS' will be in the game.

1. Ashley
2. Kaiden
3. Garrus
4. Tali
5. Liara
6. Grunt (Shepard is his Battlemaster, and we need a Krogan)
7. James Vega
8. Legion (can be replaced with Jack/Jacob possibly. Serves as geth liason. If not on crew he makes sure that the AI core is in correct form without tempering with EDI)
9. Miranda or New Female Human (Simply because she seems Loyal to Shepard, after fixing him/her up for 2 years)

On the Normandy (each one is picked up after a mission)-

Mordin Solus- Laboratory Scientist
Jacob Taylor- Helps Ashley/Kaiden with upkeep of the guns. LI potential
Jack- Joins back on after she realizes she has no where else to go except to stay with Shepard. LI potential
Thane- Upkeeps the Life Support after being taught by EDI. LI potential

Samara/Morinth, Zaeed, and Kasumi all return in Cameos but don't come on the Normandy.

I agree. But shouldn't a perma-squad member be integral to the story? I mean that's why Liara and the VS role was limited in 2. So you would be punishing someone for making that choice and keeping an important part of the story missing and giving them a smaller squad.

The point I'm trying to make is... we are guaranteed Ash or Kaiden, Liara, and Vega.
Four squadmates doesn't sound like a good number for those wanting to save the galaxy.
(scenario if most of your former squad was killed).

I'm saying. Bioware will give us a few more Vega-types. New characters that you are guaranteed.

I'd then guarantee a new female character. Maybe a Human, maybe not. Hopefully not, I want to see a new race. Maybe even a Batarian. That would be amazing.

I'd say atleast 2 new Characters. so at the very least you would have James, Ashley/Kaiden, Liara, and another squadmate. This is one of the lowest # of Characters you can have in ME1. In ME1 you can have Liara, Tali, and Ashley/Kaidan. You can kill Wrex and leave Garrus in C-Sec because you hate Turians. :P

Actually.. maybe you don't even need another new Character. Honestly 3 squadmates are enough seeing as you only take 2 along at a time anyway..

Altough I would ove a Raloi or a Batarian squad member.

WARNING, MUCH OF THE SPECULATION BELOW RELIES ON MINOR POTENTIAL SPOILERS REGARDING LOCATIONS CONFIRMED FOR ME3 IN VARIOUS MAGAZINE ARTICLES
I think this is likely. Personally, I see it breaking down like so:

GUARANTEED and PERMANENT
Liara
Kaidan/Ashley
Vega
Possibly one more unannounced new character

PERMENANT (IF NOT DEAD)
Garrus
Tali
1 (maybe 2) other ME2 squadmember.

TEMPORARY (IF NOT DEAD)
Mordin (on Sur'Kesh)
Samara (on Thessia)
Wrex and/or Grunt (on Tuchanka)
Legion and/or Kal'Reegar (on Rannoch)

That leaves us with Miranda, Jacob, Jack, Thane, Zaeed, and Kasumi. I think it's a safe bet to say that neither Zaeed or Kasumi will be permanent squad members if they're alive. I'm sure they'll at least get cameos, and may even be temporary squadmates for a mission, but I'm not holding my breath on that. That leaves Miranda, Jacob, Jack and Thane to fill 1-2 permanent positions. Jacob is unlikely (poor guy). I hope he gets an extremely badass temporary mission that converts all the haters. I know a lot of people are holding out hope for Thane... but I think it's unlikely he gets to be a permanent member. I hope they let him go out in a blaze of glory against the reapers, though. That leaves us with Miranda and/or Jack for a permanent return. If we only get one, I hope it's Jack, but we'll see.

This breakdown would allow for a minimum of 3 (maybe 4) permanent squadmembers and plenty of temporary options to change the pace once in a while. A Shepard who saved everyone in ME2 would have a team of 6-8, which seems plausible to me.

The list of temporaries is obviously a load of guesses, and a bit of wishlist on my part. The Mordin and Wrex guesses seem the most likely at this point in time. I'd love to see Samara back on Thessia, meting out some Justicar justice to the Reapers. I'm hoping against all hope that we can bring along both Wrex and Grunt when we return to Tuchanka. I can't think a more perfect recipe for ultimate badassery. Legion seems like a logical temporary squadmember option when it comes time to tackle the Quarian/Geth situation, and it may be wishful thinking, but man it would be awesome to have Kal'Reegar as an option as well. I can't wait to see how that whole scenario all plays out.

This is certainly a possibility, but I don't think it's a guarantee. In order to lose most or all of your squad, it almost has to be intentional. I'd guess the vast majority of people importing ME2 saves lost no more than 3 or 4 squad members, still leaving well over half the team. As such, I don't think it would be unreasonable to put people who essentially power-gamed a scenario in which they lost nearly everyone, a very small team for ME3.

Thankfully, you're undoubtedly wrong.
I like Kaiden and Garrus well enough but if that was to be the team it would have a huge detrimental effect on my enjoyment of the game.
