Arcania Gothic 4 - I was enticed to buy it by the visuals but the game turned out to be extremely linear, with the most horribly written dialogue and quests. I forced myself to finish it to get my "moneys worth," only to be increasingly disappointed the farther I progressed. Do not buy this game.

Borderlands - Again, very lame quests and the most annoying, excruciatingly bad dialogue in any game I have ever played. I'm talking about the corny dialog from ClapTrap.

Mount and Blade Warband - very fun combat system but quickly got repetitive and boring because the quests are almost identical no matter which city you visit. There are only so many times I can keep visiting the arena to try to mix things up.

A lot of people don't know worst from "the game I remember hating last week"
If you've been playing games since you were 5 and Mario just came out you'd know the worst games would be Shaq Fu, Batman Forever <<< Superman 64, Batman Beyond, Hell I haven't played anything in the last 2 console generations that come close to that crap. If you still think games like Borderlands and DA2 are the worst games you've ever played than I forgive you cause you don't know any better.

LOL haven't tried any of those you mentioned, but even if we are considering old school classics, I have never bought, or even played that many games that I truly hated. There were lots of great 8-bit NES games!

The dialogue and voice acting in Borderlands is so excruciatingly bad that it was physically painful IMO.

Personally, I enjoyed DA2, logged probably close to 200hrs so far, and certainly I was much happier with my purchase than Borderlands. If it were not for the poorly done fetch quests and the transformation of loot into worthless junk, I would probably say that I enjoyed DA2 more than DAO.

A lot of those games at the time where the best that the current technology could do. It was more the story that the game was about that made some of those older games worth playing. Final Fantasy 3 was so basic, but the story was very good and it was really what rpg's were about back in the day. I played the game through a few times and like other games of that era, following the storyline was what made them worth playing.

I fail to see how bad dialog and voice acting is enough to make a game the worst you ever played.
If that were the case than you would hate Just Cause 2. But I ignore the story and just enjoy the game despite its stupid attempt at story.

I haven't tried that many recent games, so I can only judge from my limited experience. I've never played JC2, for example.

I've only recently started gaming a couple years ago after a hiatus of perhaps a couple decades since my junior high days when I played NES and super oldschool DOS games.

Out of all the recent games I've played, only a few I really hated.

The original Two Worlds. It had the worst voice acting and frame rates I have ever heard or seen. Plus....oh yes...it crashed on me 5 times within my first hour playing, and I picked it up and threw the game in my trash can. Glad I only spent 4 dollars on it

Oblivion is probably the game I found the worst, for the same reasons as AllThatJazz: bad gameplay, bad dialogue, boring quests, broken leveling system.... I actually did try to stick with it, but I just couldn't bring myself to finish it, and it's one of two games I've started that I didn't finish.

Other games that deserve honorable mention: Silver Surfer for the NES (the other game I didn't finish) and Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader (actually Barcelona was kind of fun, but I have philosophical problems with a game where Tomas de Torquemada is a hero and the gameplay was pretty much a bad diablo rip off after the Cathar village).

Of course E.T. is generally considered the worst game of all time, but I never played it.

GTA4 ranks as one of the most pointless games I've played. Lots of potential squandered with that one.

I have one of the Gothic games that my dad got me for a birthday one year. It was the worst, buggiest POS I ever played. The voice acting was painful. Everything was bad.

There's been a few games that would be considered "awful" that I've played because it's genuinely bad, but sometimes they bring something new to the table -- be it a story element or gameplay concept -- that is just so against the norm that I can't help but like it. (I have a stupid fondness for my copy of "I of the Dragon", for example.).

LOL I loved that trailer with Turk! Almost enough to consider buying that one, although I've never tried a SIMS game before. Was it boring, or was there some other reason you hated it?

The problem with it was the creation and customization is extremely limited...aside from creating the sims and moving objects around, there is no builders.

Theres only about 30-40 quests in the game and you'll do 75% of them in the first little aspiration thing they have.
The quests themselves are tedious and boring to the point that I stopped caring about my character's alltogether...which is a good thing, because while you can carry characters over to a new kingdom, you can't keep their relationship or skill stats.

This old Gold Box game was not only the worst game I ever played, but the most disappointing, too. Whatever forced someone to place D&D on this title needs to be drawn and quartered using those pretty prancing ponies seen in the game..

And I am so grateful to the NWN1 mod AL3 for making this right!

Good shout!

I remember owning that monstrosity on the Mega Drive/Genesis when I was a kid, and feeling genuinely baffled at how infuriatingly cryptic the controls were. The general design of the game is atrocious, and it's a chore to even attempt to beat the first level.

If possible, you should check out the Angry Video Game Nerd's review of the Super NES version of the game, which is featured in his Batman video. He echoes a lot of my complaints with the game, and draws attention to just how badly designed it is.

I know what you mean I owned it on the SNES and I could never make it past level 2. And yes I've seen The Nerd's review and it's great.

Worst games I ever played were the Mario Party games and some Spyro games after Year of the Dragon.
