Lotza pointy things! There is an elven trader at the docks in an alley on the waterfront. Facing the gallows just turn right go to end, right again and you will see him. At night go to same spot and go down grid on ground to undercity nother trader there. After that good ones come as drops and other traders.
Soon as you can afford it buy 'Cruel Dagger' for 'correcting attitudes of slavers and thieves'.

Best starting dagger is found atop of sundermount. Another good one right off the bat is bought from Lirene's fereldon imports. Once the DLC daggers reach ~ 18 base damage use them. Use the nature dagger whenever you can as it bypasses armor. Act III has Finese. I use that instead of the DLC nature dagger when fighting immune creatures.

“They're climbin’ in your windows, they're slicin’ your people up, tryin’ to stab ‘em. So y’all need to hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide your husband cause they’re stabbin’ everybody out here.”
But yeah, what Jack-Nader said.

Act 3 is where the daggers really shine.
I grab the Shadow Claw in lowtown for 6-7g. 35 Spirit damage can do better that Finesse's 42 physical damage against many creatures. Since I don't have the DLC weapon packs I use either the dual Spirit daggers (other is from the black emporium and is over priced) or Finesse and the Carta's Hand that helps with knockback

I saw IN1 wielding a shield for the Arishok duel and doing unreal damage! Can someone shed light?

It is a bug that is very soon to be patched out.

Yeah he was using a shield rather than a dagger, and shields damage power is same stat as their armour. Its a bug.
On topic of daggers, I tend to use the cartas hands in act 3. One is from killing all enemies in lowtown, other is from store in unused passage (in docks).
